OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 1956
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, -
met. in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City,
Friday, January 27, 1956, at the hour, of 8: 00 o' clock A.M. ( CST) . Mr.
Wilson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Deuker
elnd Mr. Cecere. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
meeting were dispensed with.
Declaratory Resolution No. 2-1956 was presented and the Board ordered
bids be received on February 10, 1956 for a new car for the Weights
and Measurer Inspector.
Mayor Cutter gave the Board a memo which stated that a State Convention
of High School Student Councils is to be held in Richmond and three
girls from High School had requested permission to put a sign across
West let and Main or West 5th. and Main to welcome delegates to this
Convention. The Board unanimously rejected permission for the above
sign.
The request from the Wayne County Commissioners for eight ; ( 8) reserved
parking spaces in front of the Courthouse was taken under advisement
by the Board.
City Attorney Cecere made a motion that the Board sign the Agreement
with the State Highway Department regarding the sewer construction
in conjunction with building of the new bridge on` North. 10th Street.
City Engineer Deuker seconded the motion and on voice vote was un-
animously carried.
City Engineer Deuker reported on his investigation of the possibility
of the installation of an ornamental street light on the east side of
North 5th Street south of the entrance to City Hall. He said the Light
Plant will report on this light by meeting date of February 3, 1956.
Mayor Cutter reported that he and his Garfield School Advisory Committee
were going to tour Garfield School on January 27th and that he would
report their findings to the Board.
George Scantland, Contractor, requested that water lines be installed
at South 19th and "H" Streets in the Fairfield Park Addition. Fire
Chief Williams and City Engineer Deuker to investigate and make
recommendations.
Police Chief Mitrione explained to the Board his plan for securing two
( 2) station wagons to be' used as cruisers and also equipped as
emergency vehicles. He stated he has one ( 1) cruiser and one (1)
ambulance to use as trade-ins if his plan is used. He also explained
how better emergency service could be given to the citizens of Rich-
mond by the purchase of these two ( 2) station wagons. He was asked
by the Board to bring specifications for the two station wagons to the
' meeting to be held February 3, 1956.
Fire Chief Williams reported that Donald. Ashenfelter had served his one
year as Probationary Fireman and recommended that he be promoted to the
rank of Regular Fireman. The Board unanimously approved this recommendatio
City Controller Wilson reported that the Light Plant is checking the lights
on the North 10th Street Parking Lot to try to determine the cause of the
excessive replacement of light bulbs.
Building Inspector, Don Sliger, appeared before the Board and told about
the conditions of dwellings at 2002 Elm Drive and 808 South 13th. He
said they were unfit for human habitation and asked the Board for action.
Action was postponed until meeting of February 3, 1956.
Claims in the amount of $26,527.5? were allowed.
There being no further business presented on motion duly m , seconded
and carried, the meeting adjourned.
