The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana,.
met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City,
Friday, May 13, 1955, at the hour of 8:00 o' clock A.M. (C8T) . Mr.
Hodgin presiding with Mr. Chambers present. Mr. Coleman being absent:`
The following business was had, to-wit:

On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
meeting were dispensed with.
The Board approved the Street Department to purchase a gasoline engine
driven arc welder in the sum of 804.CO.
The Board granted permission to the Rhoades Auto Sales Company to
cut the curb on North 7th Street and remove one parking meter and also
one street light.
The Board adopted Declaratory Resolution No. 1-1955 as follows: .
DECLARATORY RESOLUTION 1-1955

Resolved; by the Board of Public Works and Safety of
the City of Richmond, in the State of Indiana, that .it is de-
sired and deemed necessary to vacate the alley running north-
eastwardly and southwestwardly along the easterly side of the
Doan and Mendenhall Addition in the City of Richmond, County
of Wayne, and State of Indiana, which alley proposed to be
vacated is more particularly described as follows, to-wit:
being all of the alley ten (0 feet in width the southeasterly
side of which is described as follows: Beginning at the north-
easterly corner of the plat of Doan and Mendenhall Addition
dated August 16, 1868 as recorded in Book 1, Page 378 in the
Recorder' s Office of Wayne County, Indiana, thence south,
sixteen (16) degrees, thirty (30) minutes West, along the •
southeasterly side of said alley, two hundred eighty one
and sixteen hundredths (281. 16) feet; thence south forty
(40) degrees West, continuing along the • southea.sterly side
of said alley, five hundred sixty and thirty four hundredths
(560. 34) feet; thence south sixty eight (68) degrees west,
sixty six (66) feet, more or less, to the easterly line of
Morton Street, being the westerly terminus of the alley
herein vacated.
All as shown by a plat of such proposed vacation now
on file in the office of the Department of Public Works of
said City. The property which may be injuriously or
beneficially affected in the said City of Richmond by said.
proposed vacation is known and described as the alley herein
proposed to be vacated and the lots and property abutting on
both sides thereof, owned by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway
Company and Henry Rodenberg.
The Building Inspector and Fire Marshall brought to the attention of
the Board that the Electrical Clauses in the Building Code of said
City were being violated. It was pointed out that installation of
furnaces, air conditioners, water heaters and cloths driers were
being installed and wired without permits to do so. The Board said
Court action would be taken if this was brought to the attention of
the City Attorney with substantial evidence proving that this code
was being violated.
Captain Juerling reported that he was going to make a survey of S.W.
5th Street from West Main to National Road to see if it would be
possible of removing the parking of cars on the west side of S.W. 5th
Street.
Claims in the amount of ¢, 17, 356. 44 were allowed.
There being no further business presented on m,ption duly made, se-
conded and carried, the meeting adjourned. //
