FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 1955.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana,
met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City,
Friday, March 18, 1955, at the hour of 8:00 o' clock A.M. (CST) . Mr.
Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Hodgin
and Mr. Chambers. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
meeting were dispensed with.
Jack. R. Turnbaugh, Business Manager of the School City of Richmond,
appeared and requested the temporary closing of South "A"Street be-
tween South 22nd and South 23rd Street during the construction of
an addition to the Test Junior High School. The Board approved the
request.
The following correspondence from Mr. Robert Law was received and
referred to the City Engineering Department:

Gentlemen:
Mr. Theodore Hartman, 605 South 14th, would appreciate a
load of gravel in a hole at the "approach" to their alley be-
tween South 14th & 15th. The hole is on the North side of
South F.
Mr. Virgil Creech, 1008 South 4th, wants Mr. Hodgin' s advice
regarding " street improvement" to his house. The Creech resi-
dence is at the top of a steep grade near the end of 4th.

The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond
Palladium-Item, a newspaper on the dates of March let and March 8th
1955 that sealed bids would be received on this date for furnishing
materials for the Street Department for said City from April 1,
1955 to and including April 1, 1956. The proofs were ordered filed.
The following bids we,re opened and read aloud:
Pipe bids: Loudon Pipe Company, Cincinnati, Ohio
Price Brothers Co. , Dayton, Ohio
Calcium Chloride: Solvay Process Division, Cincinnati, Ohio
Stone, Sand, Gravel & Cement: American Aggregates, Richmond
DeBolt Concrete Co. , Richmond
Bitumious Material: W.L. Magaw, Richmond
All the above bids were referred to the City Engineer for his study
and recommendations.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond
Palladium-Item, a newspaper on the dates of February 23rd and March
2nd, 1955, that a public hearing would be held on this date on
Assessment Roll No. 992-1954 for curb, gutter and sidewalk both
sides of South 6th From South "M" to South "N" Street. The proofs
were ordered filed.
The Board heard all persons present and on motion duly made, seconded
and carried, Assessment Roll No. 992-1954 was confirmed as adopted.

The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond
Palladium-Item, a newspaper on the dates of March 1st and March 8th
1955, that sealed bids would be received on this date for frunishing
coal and fuel oil for use of the various departments for the City
for the season from September, 1955 to the first day of June 1956.
The proofs were ordered filed.
The following bids were received, opened and read. aloud:
Coal: 0.M. Kendall Coal Co. , Richmond, Indiana
Fuel Oil: Warfield Oil Co. , Richmond, Indiana
All- of the above bids were referred to the City Engineer for his study
and recommendations.

A petition was received for an alley between North 19th and North 20th
from North "D" to North "E" . The petition was referred to the City
Engineer to Prepare an Improvement Resolution for the work to be done.
The Board concurred in the recommendation of Assistant Fire Chief
Charles Bostick for an 8" water main to be extended from West 18th
Street 500( west on West Main Street and a fire hydrant to be in-
stalled at the end of said installation for fire protection in this
area.
Claims in the amount of $9, 763.67 were allowed.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made, se-
conded and carried, the meeting adjourned.
