OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC 'WORKS
AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 6, 1954-.
The Borad of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, •
met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City,
Friday, August 6; 1954, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock A.M. (CDST) , Mr.
Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Hodgin
and Mr. Chambers. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
meeting were dispensed with.
Several resident property owners living in the vicinity of Southwest' lOth
and "A" Streets appeared before the board and complained of the water
from recent rains backing up into their basements. The group expressed
that they thought this water condition was due to the new Holy Family
School connecting their surface water pipes into the sanitary sewer.
Mr; Hodgin expressed that he had already contacted the contractor and
ordered the surface Pipes of said school to be disconnected from the
sanitary sewer system. The Clerk was ordered to send a letter to the
contractor to order him to discontinue the above practice so that the
people may be relieved from water backing into the basements on the
west side.
A letter was received from the Wayne County Community Chest requesting
permission to place Community Chest ].amp Post collars on the down town
lamp posts during the 1954 campaign. this fall. The Board referred this
request to the Light Plant Committee for their consideration.
On recommendation of the City Engineer the Board unanimously recinded
Improvement Resolution No. 982-1954 to construct sidewalk, curb, and '
gutter on Green Street.
The Clerk presented proofs ofpublication printed in the Richmond
Palladium Item, a newspaper on July 14 and 21, 1954, that a public
hearing would be held on Improvement Resolution No. 984-1954 on this
date. The proofs were ordered filed.
The Board having heard all persons interested or affected by said Improve-
ment Resolution and no remonstrance being filed or received the Board
now unanimously confirms Improvement Resolution No. 984-1954 as adopted.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Pal-
ladium-Item, a newspaper on July 14 and. 21, 1954-, that a public hearing
would be held on Improvement Resolution No. 985-1954 on this date. The
proofs were ordered filed. •
The Board having heard all persons interested or affected by said. Improve-
ment Resolution and no remonstrance being filed or received. the Board
now unanimously confirms Improvement Resolution No. 985-1954- as adopted.
On recommendation of the Fire Chief the Board unanimously approved the
appointment of Harlan C. Green as probationary fireman effective Sunday,
August 7,• 1954.
The Board approved the following curb cuts: 217 N.W. "I" Street for
driveway to garage on N.W. 2nd: 319 Southwest "D" Street to widen drive-
way approach.
The Board unanimously adopted Preliminary Assessment Roil No. 977-1953.
Claims in the amount of 6, 955. 77 were allowed.
There being no- further business presented on motion duly made, seconded
and carried, the meeting adjourned.
