HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-18-1954 0 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA. FRIDAY, JUNE 18, 1954. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, .June 18, 1954, at the hour of 9: 00 o' clock A.M. (CDST) . Mr. Coleman presiding with the following members present: Mr. Hodgin and Mr. Chambers. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with, The Board unanimously adopted Preliminary Assessment Roll No. 971-1953 and instructed the Clerk to prepare the advertising for a hearing on said Assessment Roll. The Board unanimously adopted Improvement Resolution No. 982-1954 to improve the west side of Green Street, from Northwest "J" Street to Northwest "L" Street by the construction of concrete sidewalk, curb, and gutter in accordance with the profile, details, drawing and speci- fications on file. Dr. Harry P. Ross, President of the Indiana Heart Foundation Association appeared before the Board requesting permission to park a Heart Founda- tion Trailer in the City on Friday, June 25, 1954. The Board agreed to give permission to park the trailer on the south side of the Leland Hotel located on South "A" Street. Captain Juerling advised the Board that he had contacted most of the property owners on National Road West about placing "No Parking" signs from Southwest 5th Street and National Road to the first alley east of Southwest 4th Street on the south side of National Road. These people agreed and the Board ordered the Clerk to write to the State Highway Commission about this request. Captain Juerling also brought to the attention of the Board the debris that is on the sidewalk near the Cafe Napoli located at the 8th Street Railroad crossing and also reported the walls to be in a dangerous condition. The Board authorized the Clerk to write to the owner of the Cafe Napoli and request that she remove the debris from the side- walk and also make the walls more secure for the safety of pedestrains. The City Engineer stated that six ( 6) lights would be needed for the North 10th Street Parking Lot with three (3) on each side of the said lot. The material to be used will cost approximately360. 00. The Board authorized the City Engineer to proceed with the installation of these lights. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper on the dates of May 26 and June 2 1954, that sealed bids would be received on this date fora new 1954 Motor Grader for the Street Department. The Proofs were ordered filed. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper on the dates of May 25 and June. 1,, 1954, that sealed bids would be received for labor and material to do the work as provided for in Improvement Resolution No. 980-1954. The proofs were ordered filed. The following bids were received, opened and read aloud: Ralph Reed & Son,, Inc. , Anderson, Indiana $15, 993.15 DeBolt Concrete Co. , Richmond, Indiana $14, 648.55 City Engineers estimate $16, 292.00 On recommendation of the City Engineer the Board unanimously accepted the bid of the DeBolt Concrete Company. The following curb cut was approved by the Board: 109 South 23rd , Lot 4 Parkway Hills 1st Addition for driveway. ' Claims in the amount of $16, 850.29 were allowed.
