FRIDAY, MAY 28, 1954.
The Board. of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana,
met in regular session . in its office in the City Hall in said City,
Friday, May 28, 1954, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock A.M. (CDST) . Mr.
Hodgin presiding with the following member present: Mr. Chambers. Mr.
Coleman being absent. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
meeting were dispensed with.
Several property owners in the vicinity of Northwest 15th and "B" Streets
appeared before the Board protesting the closing of Northwest "B" as
requested by Mr. Loschiavo which case is pending in the Wayne Circuit
Court. These people requested that the City protest this closing of
said street very vigorously.
The Indiana Railroad Bus Company official appeared before the Board
and outlined a proposed reduction of busses running in the evenings
from 6: 00 P.M. to 11: 00 P.M. Monday throught Friday and Saturday and
Sundays. The Board requested the official to state in a written
letter as to what the changes may be for the Boards consideration.
The locations of the Pay Station as presented by the Telephone Company
last week were discussed. It was agreed by the Board the location
at South 9th a.nd JL" Street as presented was agreeable. The location
at Northwest 5th and Indiana Avenue was agreeable. The following
locations were requested to be altered by the Board: Southwest 5th
and Main Street to be changed to the Northwest corner of West 5th
and Main Streets; the location at East Main in front of Mac' s Pharmacy
to be relocated at the Northeast corner of Mac ' s Pharmacy. An agree-
ment is to be prepared and presented to this Board between the
Telephone Company and the City to locate these Pay Stations.
A petition for installation of street lights in the Ravinia Park
Second Addition was received and referred to the Light Plant Committee.
A letter received from the Crabtree-Maule Corporation requesting per-
mission for the construction of an 18" storm sewer from the Belden
Manufacturing Company property; to run in an easterly direction under
the Williamsburg Pike and along the south side of a public highway to
a point near the C & 0 Right-of-way line. This letter also stated
that the C & 0 Railroad office at Peru, Indiana, has approved the
plan to be beneficial to them. On recommendation of Mr. Hodgin the
Borad granted permission to the Belden Manufacturing Corporation to
construct this new 18" storm sewer through and under the Williamsburg
Pike to. the C & 0 Right-of-way line.
The Board received word from the State Board of Tax Commissioners that
said Board had approved the $70, 000.00 Bond Issue for the construction
of a new fire house in the Northwest section of the City of Richmond,
Indiana.
Mr. Ross appeared before the Board and reported that all City Dumps
would be closed from the hours of 6:00 P.M. to 6: 30 A.M. during the
week days and all day on Sunday.
On recommendation of Captain Juer].ing the Board approved the construction
of traffic islands on Whitewater Boulevard near the North 10th Street
intersection.
Claims in the amount of $39L6.53 were allowed.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made, seconded
and carried, the meeting adjourned. -
