HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-21-1954 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS 2 3- AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, MAY 21, 1954 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, May 21, 1954, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock A.M. (CDST) . Mr. Hodgin presiding with the following member present: Mr. Chambers. Mr. Coleman being absent. The following business was. had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. IIThe Board gave consent to the Wayne County Tuberculosis .Association to place a motile chest x-ray unit for four days at 9th and Main Streets beginning June 15, 1954. The officials of the Richmond Home Telephone Company met with the Board and outlined their plans to locate public nay station telephone booths at the following locations: South 9th and "L" Streets, East Main and 16th Streets, Southwest 5th and Main and Northwest 5th and Indiana Avenue. The Boark took this under advisement and requested the City Engineer to investigate these locations before any action is taken by the Board. ' The following letter was received from the State Highway Commission relative' to the traffic signal on South 5th Street: ' May 17, 1954 Mr. Ather J. Reeg, Clerk Board of Public Works & Safety Richmond, Indiana Dear Mr. Reeg: Your letter of May 15 concerning the installation of a traffic light on South 5th Street (State Road #27) is being referred II to our Director of Traffic, Mr. N.C. Pohlkotte, with the- re- quest that an investigation be made and recommendations be given to the State Highway Department. Yours very truly, /s/ A.J. Wedeking Albert J. Wedeking Chairman cc: Mr. Pohlkotte AJW/m A letter in the form of a petition from the Townsend Community Center requesting' a street light in that unlighted section of North 12th and "H" Streets was received and referred to the Light Plant Committee. The Board approved the request of the Vacation Bible School of the First Presbyterian Church to reserve the space on the west side of North 10th Street from the alley to the corner of North "A" Street from the hours of 8: 30 A.L . to 11: 30 A.M. beginning June 14th to and including June 25th, 1954, which is the period that the Vacation Bible School will be in session. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Rich- 11 mond, Indiana, that sealed bids would be received for furnishing the Police Department with two (2) new cars. The proofs were ordered filed on motion duly made, seconded and carried. The Clerk presented the appraisers affidavit that the cars were appraised as follows: 1952 Ford Coach #B2LU 107225 at $600.00 ' 1953 Chevrolet Coach #LAA 217564 at $650. 00 The following bids were received, opened and read aloud: 24 KURDYS CHEVROLET, INC. 1-1954 Chevrolet - 150 Series 2-Door equipped with Seat Covers; A. Engine add' 76,50 The above bids were taken under advisement and referred to the Chief of Police for his study and recommendation. On recommendation of the Chief of Police the Board approve the bid of the Kurdy Chevrolet Company. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Rich- mond, Indiana, that sealed bids would be received for purchasing the property of the City located on North 15th and "J" Streets. The proofs were ordered filed on motion duly made, seconded and carried. The Clerk presented the appraisers affidavit signed by the appraisers who appraised the lot on North 15th and "J" Street to be $200.00 The only bid received was that of Willie James Jackson..which was opened and read aloud: The bid was $100. 00 This bid was taken under advisement by the Board until a later date. The Board concurred with the recommendation of the Light Plant to in- stall an additional street light in the Bookfeld Addition. The Clerk presented proofs ofpublication printed in the Richmond Pal- ladium-Item, a newspaper of general circulation on the dates of May 3-10 '1954, that a public hearing would be held on this date for Improvement Resolution No. 980-1954 . The proofs were ordered filed on motion duly made, seconded and carried. After hearing all persons interested in Improvement Resolution No. 980- 1954 and no remonstrances received or filed the Board now confirms Improvement Resolution No. 980-1954 as adopted and ordered the Clerk to prepare Publication to receive bids for said Improvement Resolution No. 980-1954. 25 Claims in the amount of $48, 198. 11 were allowed.
