HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-05-1954 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS .AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1954. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, February 5, 1954, at the hour of 9: 00 o' clock A.M. (CST) . Mr. Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Hodgin and Mr. Chambers. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. Cq Mr. Paul Furnas, Comptroller of Earlham College, appeared before the board asking that the City of Richmond sign a contract with said college for fire protection. Mr. Chambers advised -that the City couldn' t enter into such a contract. Mr. Furnas was told that Earlham should consider being annexed to the City to receive such fire protection as they desired. Three students whose names were Scott Swope, David Holthouse and David Bridgeford appeared before the board in behalf of the Activities board of the Richmond Senior High School. This group asked that the City improve the parking lot across the Street from High School for better parking facilities. This was referred to Mr. Hodgin and Capt. Juerling for study and recommendations. The Clerk presented proofs of publications printed in the Richmond Palladium a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Richmond, Indiana, on the dates of January 20-27, 1954 that sealed proposals would be received for one (1) 1954 car for the Street Commissioner as per specification on file, on this date until 9:00 o' clock A.M. The proofs were ordered received and filed. The following bids were received, opened and read aloud: Willoughby Chevrolet Co. Net Price $1, 625.00 Rhoades Auto Sales Co. " n 1, 879.00 Gilcrest Company " " 1, 892.00 Ridenour Auto Sales " " 2,500.00 All of the above bidders quoted a trade-in price above the appraisers value which was on the 1942 Hudson which was $50.00. The above bids were tabulated and studied by the City Engineer and. Street Commissioner and the City Engineer recommended and moved the bid of Rhoades Auto Sales be accepted, seconded by Mr. Chambers and on voice vote the motion was carried. On recommendation of Fire Chief Williams the Board approved the in- stallation of a water line and two fire hydrants along South 32nd Street in the 2nd Addition of Ravinia Park when said Addition is finially annexted to the City. The Board approved on recommendation of Cant. Juerling of prohibiting parking on the north side of Nortb "D" Street from North 5th Street to Fort Wayne Avenue. On recommendation of. Chief of Police the board accepted the resignation of Robert Allen from the Police Department as of February 3, 1954. The Clerk presented proofs of publications printed in the Richmond Palladium, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Richmond, Indiana, on the dates of January 18-25, 1954, that sealed Proposals Would be received on this date until the hour of 10:00 o' clock A.M. ( CST) for labor and material required to do the work required in Improvement Resolution No. 973-1953. The proofs were ordered received and filed. The following bids were received, opened and read aloud: Ralph Reed, Anderson, Indiana $11,949.00 • W.L. Magaw, Richmond, Indiana 12,533. 90 DeBolt Co. , Richmond, Indiana 14, 661.00 The City Engineer''s estimate 14, 690,00 All bidders furnished the proper financial statement and bond required. No action can be taken on the a bove bids until the date -of February 19, 1954. On motion duly made, seconded and. carried, the Board will meet on Thursday, February. 11, 1954, as a regular meeting. The claims in the sum of 27041.54 were allowed. There being no further business presented on motion duly made, se- conded and carried, the meeting adjourned. 'Chairman Attest: /`_ City erk
