The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, July 24, 1953, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock A.M. (CDST) . Mr. Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Hodgin • and Mr. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. ,,,,, Mr. Dwight E. Lanman, Sr. , 228 South 12th Street, presented a re- n monstrance signed by residents living on South 12th Street who do not OD favor making South 12th and 13th Streets one-way. This remonstrance 74 was received and ordered filed. ,....eh Mr. J.E. Morley and Mr. Darrell Shaffer of the Indiana Railroad also appeared and discussed with the board the one-way streets in the City and what effect they would have on the bus routes. Nothing definite was worked out in regards to making any streets one-way until the Purdue report has been presented. Rev. Marvel of the Nazerene Church on South 7th Street requested for a walk land across 7th Street was referred to Capt. Juerling. The board rejected the requestof the Second National Bank for the IIuse of a car space on North 8th Street for appraising automobiles for loan purposes. The yellow space is needed to speed traffic at this congested area. The board unanimously adopted the preliminary assessment roll for Improvement Resolution No. 963-1952. The board authorized the Clerk to prepare the advertising to receive bids for furnishing the Street Department with a. new Street Sweeper as per specifications on file. A request for a street light near the West Side Lumber and Building Supplies, 310 Northwest F Street, was referred to the Light Plant Committee. Councilman Law' s complaints in letter form of July 30, 1953, were presented and were given to the proper department heads to carry out the needs to be done. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium, a newspaper of general circulation in said City on the dates of July 6-13, 1953, that a public hearing would be held on Improvement Resolution No. 966-1953. The proofs were received and ordered filed. 111 The board heard all persons present who desired to be heard on Improve- ment Resolution No. 966-1953. The board now modifies Improvement Resolution No, 966-1953 to eliminate the sidewalk on the west side of Southwest 16th Street, from Southwest E Street to the Smith Corporation line. a 40: The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper of general circulation in said City on dates of July 6-13, 1953, that sealed Proposals would be received for furnishing labor and material for construction of a concrete alley as provided in Improvement Resolution No. 965-1953. The proofs were re- ceived and ordered filed. The following bid was received, opened and read aloud: S. S. Palma Construction Company, Richmond, Indiana. 0.995. 20. The City Engineers estimate shows. W40.00. On recommendation of the City Engineer the board unanimously approved: the acceptance of the S.S. Palma Construction Companys bid. The Board allowed the claims -in the sum of 4 3, 057.12. • There being no further business presented on motion duly made, se- conded and carried, the meeting adjourned. Chairman . :_.
