OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA,
FRIDAY, JUNE 26, 1953.

The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City ,of Richmond, Indiana,
met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City,
Friday, June 26, 1953, at the hour of 9: 00 o' clock A.M. (CDST) . Mr.
Coleman presiding with the following member being present: Mr. Hodgin.
Mr. Haworth being absent. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
meeting ware dispensed with.
A petition was received signed by property owners requesting S.W. 16th
be improved with curb, gutters and sidewalks on both sides, from
S.W. E Street to the corporation line. This petition was referred to
the City Engineer to prepare plans, specification,, estimates and an
Improvement Resolution.
Mr. Burlison reported that he was going to Detroit, Michigan to view a
street sweeper for the Street Department.
On recommendation of the Fire Chief_ the board unanimously approved
the extension of a six (6) inch water main east from South 13th and
"P" Street, to South 14th and "P" Street and installation of a fire
hydrant at the intersection of South 14t1 and "P" Street to serve as
fire protection.

Councilman Law' s request for the treatment of S.W. 16th And Sutton Place
to lay the dust was referred to the Street Department.
On recommendation of Capt. Juerling the Board approved the proper
stop sign to be erected at the intersection of North lltr_ and "D" Street,
making North D Street the stop street.
On recommendation of Capt. Juerling the board approved the elimination
of parking on the west side of North 12th Street ' south from North E
Street to the first alley.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed_in the Richmond
P.alladiui-Item, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of
Richmond on the 8th and 15th days of June , 1953, that a public hearing
would be held on Improvement Resolution No. 965-1953 on this date.
The proofs were ordered received and. filed. Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Krafts, 27 S.W. 10th Street and Mr. and Mrs. George J. Blose, 916
S.W. A Street appeared to remonstrate against said improvements. The
City Engineer reported that his office hasn' t set the grade lines in
this alley and recommended that this hearing be continued until Friday,
July 3, 1953. The board approved the recommendation of the City
Engineer.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication presented in the Richmond..
Palladium-Item, _ a •newspaper of general circulation in the City of
Richmond, on the 8th and 15th days of June, 1953, that sealed bids
would be received on this day to furnish labor and material to •paint
the interior of the City Hall. The proofs were received and ordered

filed.. The following bids were received, opened and read aloud:
Roy Gabbard 43, 089. 00
William Wiggans 44, 525.00
Ray Witherly bid was not on the usual statutory affidavit and was not
considered.
Mr. Coleman reported that the amounts quoted in the acceptable bids
were in the excess of the sum left in the budget and recommended that
all bids be rejected. The board approved the recommendation of Mr.
Coleman and rejected all bids.
Mr. Beck, Building Inspector, made a verbal report to the Clerk that he
had investigated the garage work that was being carried on at the rear
of Loren Steele, 1005 Hibberd. Drive and found that work is being done
on midget racing. cars. The Board requested that Mr. Meck make a
written statement instead of the oral -one for the records.
Claims in the amount of 410, 979. 17 were allowed.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made, seconded
and carried, the meeting adjourned.
