Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the City Hall in said City on Friday, May 8, 1953, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock P.M. ( CDST) . Mr. Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Hodgin and Mr. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: _ On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the prev- ious meeting were ,dispensed with. r;J Mr. Ramsey, owner of property on Richmond. Avenue, presented plans to make repairs to. said., property and the board approved said plans with ao the understanding that Mr. Ramsey with his contractor or foreman ex- plains to the Building Inspector the details- of the work 'to be done and that such work is actually done to the Building Inspector' s satisfaction. The Clerk was ordered to advise the Building Inspecter of this action by, letter. . On recommendation of the Fire Chief the Board approved the appoint- ment of Robert Holt es probationary fireman as of May 16, 1953. On recommendation of the Fire Chief. the Board concurred in the appoint- ment of Charles Bostick as First Assistant Fire Chief and Harry Robinson -Second Assistant Fire Chief. This was done to give respon- sibility to the ranking assistant in the absence of the Fire Chief. 211 A request for a fire hydrant at South 19th and "G" Streets was re- ferred to the Fire Chief' and City Engineer to investigate. Chief of Police reported that he had received fine co-operation from the Street Department in painting speed 'check zones and every effort will be made to check speeders within the City Limits in the future. On recommendation of Capt. Juerling the Board approved two (2) hour parking on Ft. Wayne Avenue from North 7th to North 8th Streets on both sides, on North "E" Street on both sides from North 8th to North 10th Streets and at Elm Place on both sides of the street.. The complaint of the crowded bus conditions to the Crosley Plant as presented by Councilman Marino on May 4, 1953 was brought before the Board. After much discussion a telephone call was made to Mr. Earl Sommers, Personnel Manager of the Crosley Plant, asking if any complaints have been received by him from the employees regarding the crowded conditio/L4 the buses leaving the• Crosley Plant on the • afternoon shift. 'Mr. �s stated that he had on various occasions been told that such conditions existed but nothing serious. He also has been advised by Mr. Sheffer of the Indiana Railroad Company that. he Is willing to meet with any of the industrial .companies about such conditions as was set out in this complaint of Mr. Marino' s. II The-"Board ordered the Clerk to write to the Light Plant and request the installation of a street light at the intersection of South 16th and "L" Streets as was approved by the Common Council Monday, May 4, 1953. 39 • The Clerk presented proof of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, a newspaper. of general circulation in the city of Richmond, on April 20 and 27, 1953 that a hearing would be held on the assessment roll as provided in Improvement Resolution No. 950- 1952, on this date at the hour of 9: 00 o' clock A.M. ( CDST) . The proofs were received and ordered filed. All taxpayers who desired. to express themselves on said assessment resolution were heard, The Board now unanimously confi±ms Assess- ment Roll No. 950-1952 as was adopted on the 17th day of April, 1953. Councilman Alkire appeared before the. Board to seek information about what the Board has thought of doing toward relieving the traffic situation that has become a problem on North "C" Street between North 4th and 5th Streets near the Ray Needham property. Mr. Alkire was advised that the Board still has under consideration several plans to relieve this situation at a mimimum cost to the city. The Board approves the following petitions for curb cuts: : 1104 West Main and 1038 South 5th Street. Claims in the amount of.$240907. 74 were allowed.
