OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1953.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana,
met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City,
Friday, February 6, 1953, at the hour of 9: 00 o' clock A.M. (CST) . Mr.
Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Haworth.
Mr. Hodgin being absent. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
meeting were dispensed with.
On recommendation of the Chief of Police, the Board approved the
appointment of Donald L. Knoob as probationary patrolman as of Febru-
ary 16, 1953.
Councilman Eastman appeared before the board requesting that the Police
Department report all street lights that' are not in operation to the
Light Plant. Chief Rohe stated that he would instruct all members of
the department to make reports of all street lights that are not in
operation to the Light Plant.
The Clerk was instructed to write the State Highway Commission on the
disposition of the traffic signals at the intersections of State Road
#121 and North 24th Street and South 5th and "E" Streets.
The Board agreed to approve any recommendations that the Fire Chief
would make for extending the water mains in the Travers Addition as
, requested by Mr. Larry Zabister.
The School Board petitions to vacate an alley in the Finley School
area and in the Vaile School area was taken under advisement until
Mr. Dueker would check with the school authorities on what they pro-
post to do about making new alleys for ingress and egress for the
residents in the said areas.
The board approved the Clerk of preparing the proper advertising for
a Wrecker for the Street Department use.
Captain Juerling reported that a recent survey disclosed that big
and small trucks were blocking the down-town alleys as much as three
hours or more. The City Attorney advised Captain Juerling to see
what type of ordinances are used in other cities for prohibiting
this practice and report his findings back to the board.
The Board allowed the claims in the sum of $ 23, 364. 34.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made, se
conded and carried, the meeting adjourned.
