HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-23-1953 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA. FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 1953. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, January 23, 1953, at the hour of 9:00 o° clock A.M. (CST) . Mr. Coleman presiding with the following members present: Mr. Hodgin and Mr. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium Item, a newspaper of general circulation, in the City of 0'' • Richmond, Indiana on January 12 and 19, 1953, that sealed bids would be received for a new 1952 or 1953 one-ton truck for the Street Department of said City. The proofs were ordered filed. The following bids were opened and read aloud: Willoughby Chevrolet Co. 0l,581.00 Kenneth E. Williams 1, 795. 00 • Raper Brothers Equipment Co. 1, 687. 54 The Clerk presented Declaratory Resolution #1 for the appraisement of two (2) automobiles used by the Police Department which were appraised by the appraisers appointed by the Judge of the Wayne Circuit II Court in the amount of 1951 Chevrolet Coach at .1650. 00 and 1951 Ford Coach a.t 1600.00. The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium Item, a newspaper of general circulation, in the City of Richmond, Indiana on January 12 and 19, 1953 that sealed bids would be received for two (2) new 1953 cars for the Police Department of said City. The proofs were ordered filed. The following bids were received, opened and read aloud: Willoughby Chevrolet Co. 12, 100. 00 (for 2 cars net) All of the above bids were referred to the Street Commissioner, Chief of Police and Mr. Hodgin for tabulation and recommendations. Upon recommendation of Mr. Hodgin, the Board unanimously approved the bid of the Willoughby Chevrolet Company for a truck for the Street Department. Upon recommendation of Mr. Hodgin, the Board unanimously approved the bid of the Willoughby Chevrolet Company to furnish two (2) cars for the Police Department. The Board unanimously adoped the assessment rolls for Improvement Resolution No. 954-1952 and Improvement Resolution No. 937-1950 and instructed the Clerk to prepare the publication for a Public hearing to be heard on February 20, 1953. 8 The Clerk presented a letter from the Richmond Retail Merchants Association that had been sent to Mr. Charles Youngflesh, President of the Richmond Common Council, relative to off-street parking in the down town areas. The Common Council having recommended that said letter be referred to the Board of Works. The Board approved that a committee of three be appointed, one from the Richmond Retail Mer- chants Association, one from the Common Council and one from the Board of Works. This committee to make a thorough study of the park- ing situation and recommend to the City Plan Commission their findings. Mr. Hodgin was chosen as a member to represent the Board of Works. The Clerk was instructed to notify the Common Council and Richmond Retail Merchants Association of this action. The claims were allowed in the amount of 47, 737. 10.
