OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY, -RICHMOND, INDIANA.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, 1952.
The Board. of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana,
met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Fri-
day-, August 8, 1952, at the hour of 3:00 o! clock A.M. ( cet) . Mr. Coleman
presiding with the following members being p _resent: Mr. Hod.gin and Mr.
Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous •
meeting were dispensed with.
A petition signed. by 35 property owners and taxpayers in the vicinity of
West 13th and Main -Street protesting the erection of a. church and a tent
at said West 13th and Main Streets. The Board- took this under advisement
and also requested_ Mr. Lloyd Meyers, Minister of the church to produce
a certificate from the person whom he ,purchased the tent fromn as to
whether said tent is fire proofed.
Mr. Coleman read a letter- from Council requesting that the Board of Works
to proceed. with the action as set-out in Ordinance Number 14 52--1952, to
proceed with the securing of the necessary real estate, rights of way or
easements to complete the project of erecting a new light plant. -
Mr. Haworth, City Attorney, advised Mr. Everett Eastman, Councilman who
was present, that the necessary steps were being followed and that the
option was taken care of.
Mr. Virgil Martin, 321 South llth Street complaint of parking in front
of said address was referred to Capt. Juerling to investigate.
On recommenda.tio:e of Capt. Juerling, the Board approved the following:
No parking 50 feet east of the present bus stop on the north
side of
North E Street; No parking on the east side of North 8th Street from E
Street to Elm Street; No Parking on both sides of South I"Gll Street from
. from South 5th Street to South6tn Street; No parking on the north side

a uStopl' sign at the intersection of Sheridan Stteet and Williamsburg
- Pike making both streets stop streets.
The Board received a letter from the Richond Retail Merchants Bureau,
Inc. , requesting the closing of Main. Street Oct. 23, 24 and. 25 for a fall
festival, The Board instructed the Clerk to write the State Highway
Commission to see if Main Street could be cloased on said dates.
Mr. ,Porter, owner Porter Sign Service advised the Board that a gas
furnace is being installed in the Plant to abolish all smoke nuisance
that has been created by coal smoke.
A petition was presented requesting the construction of concrete curb,
gutter and sidewalk on east side of .Harris Street from Northwest i"MU to

Streets. This petition was referred ed to the Engineer for pre-
paration of an improvement Resolution.
The Board allowed the claims in the sum of 514, 65k. 77.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made, seconded
and carried the meeti adjourned.
