AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY
MARCH 21, 1952
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana,
met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Fri-
day, March 14, 1952, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock a.m. Mr. Coleman pre-
siding with the following members being present: Mr. Hodgin and Mr.
Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
meeting were dispensed with.
Councilman Everett Alkire brought to the attention of the Board of
complaints received from home owners in the area of West 7th Street
Park. The basements of the houses in this area have water and mildew
caused from the lake in the rear of said Park. This was referred to
Mr. Hodgin to investigate and make recommendations.
Fire Chief Williams received a letter from the Navy giving information
regarding Roland Walls a member of the Fire Department. Walls will have
to participate in a 14 day training cruise each year to be eliminated
from the Selective Service induction. Fire Chief Williams recommended
that Walls be given a 14 day leave of absence without pay. The Board
approved the recommendation.
Captain E. Juerling recommended the removal of the "No Left Turn" sign
at West lst and Main Street. The Board approved the recommendation
and instructed the Clerk to notify the State Highway Commission of this
action.
Captain E. Juerling recommended that one-way traffic on South "A" Street
be extended from South 4th Street to South 2nd Street. One stop sign
be placed on the Southeast corner of South 3rd and "A" Street and one
stop sign be placed on the Southeast corner of South 2nd and "A" Street
The board approved the recommendation and ordered the Street Commissioner
to place the signs at said intersections.
The Board referred the request for the re-establishment of a traffid.
light at the intersection of North 5th and "D" Streets to Captain Juerl-
ing to investigate and report his recommendations back to this board.
Mr. Hodgin reported that the Trustees of the Church located on Richmond
Avenue and West 1st Streets had asked to purchase some ground from the
City near said Church for a parking area. This was referred to the
City Engineer for study.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication published in the Richmond
Palladium a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Richmond,
Indiana, stating that sealed bids would be received until the hour of
10:00 o'clock a.m. (c. s. t. ) Friday, March 21, 1952, for construction
of a Sanitary Sewer as provided for in Improvement Resolution No. 947-
1952. On motion duly made seconded and carried the proofs were ordered
filed. The following bids were received and opened and read aloud.

The sum of $5,359. 60
DeBolt Construction Co.
The sum of $6,575. 00

The City Engineers estimate being in the sum of 6, 630.00. Both bids
being under the estimate and were received and referred to the City
IIEngineer for study and recommendations.
The Board allowed the claims in the amount of . 23,590. 94.
There being no further business presented on motion made, seconded
and carried the meeting adjourned.
