AND SAFETY, RICHMOND , INDIANA,
FEBRUARY 21, 1952.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana,
met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City
Thursday, February 21, 1952, at the hour of 9:00 o° clock A.M. Mr. Cole-
man presiding with the following member being present, Mr. Hodgin. Mr.
Haworth being absent. The following business was had to-wit:
The Board authorized the Clerk to prepare the publication for receiving
sealed proposals as provided for in Improvement Resolution No. 947-1951
for the construction of a " sanitary sewer" in South 5th Street, extending
from South "I" Street, south a distance of about Three Hundred Twenty-
five (325.00) Feet: and a "combined sewer" in South "I" Street from
Liberty Avenue to South 5th Street. The bids to be received Friday,
March 21, 1952.
The Board approved two policemen to attend a Drunk-O-Meter School to be
held in Indianapolis for five days of the last week of February, 1952.
The Board granted permission to the Police Department to place a
cigarette machine in the hall of the City Hall.
On recommendation of the Mayor the Board ordered Captain Juerling to
make a thorough traffic check at the intersection of West Third- and Main
and report this check to the Board.
Mr. Hodgin reported than a letter was received from the State Highway .
Commission saying that Mr. McVaugh, District Engineer has been requested
to make an inspection of the Main Street bridge over the Whitewater
River.
On recommendation of the Mayor, the board authorized th'e Clerk to con-
tact the State Highway Commission to get further information on what is
the necessary form to follow to have a public hearing set on a by-pass
for Richmond in an east-west direction.
The Board granted permission to the Red Cross to install light pole
collars in the business district during the Red Cross Fund Campaign ,
to be held in March 1952.
A letter calling the attention of the board to a hazardous condition
of the sidewalk in front of 229 South 20th Street was referred to the
Street Department to investigate and make the necessary repairs.
The Street Commissioner stated that sidewalk and gutter repairs would
start as soon as weather permits. Mr. Salzarulols complaints of the
curbs on North 20th Street and the sidewalk on North "E" Street were
received and referred to the Street Commissioner.
The. Board granted the Street Commissioner permission to make some small
push-carts to be used for sweeping the streets in the business area.
The board allowed the claims in the amount of d 10, 213.01.
The Board allowed the request to cut the curb at 110 West Main Street.
There being no further business presented, on motion made, seconded and
carried the meeting ad 'ourned. /r
