HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-08-1952 . 4: OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA, FEBRUARY 8, 1952. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond., Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City Friday, _ February 8, 1952, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock A.M. Mr Cole- man presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Hodgin; and Mr. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. - On recommendation of the Chief of Police the board approved the advance- ment of Donald Strahan from that of probationary patrolman to that of ' regular patrolman as of February 16, 1952. Mr. Ross reported that there has been about one yard of gravel per day being washed into the sewers and causing some extra trouble at the Dis- posal Plant. Mr. Ross is of the opinion that this gravel is washed down from the State Highways. The said highways do have an accumulation of sand and gravel from patching and sanding during the freezing weather. Mr. Burlison reported that any patching and sanding done on the City Streets is cleaned up by sweeping. The board authorized the Clerk and Mr. Ross to draft a letter to the State Highway Commission asking that the highways be given a sweeping immediately. The board unanimously approved the Preliminary Assessment Rolls for Improvement Resolutions Nos. 944-1951 and 945-1951. The Clerk was authorized to prepare the publications for a hearing to be held on said assessment rolls to be held Friday, March 7, 1952, at the hour of - 10:00 A.M. (c. s. t. ) . Mr. Hodgin reported that he had a meeting with the industrial plants that are responsible for the maintenance of the railroad crossings on Washington Avenue and it was agreed. that the. crossings would be maintained immediately. On recommendation of the Mayor, the board approved the Clerk of preparing • the proper advertising to receive bids for the leasing of the Market House. The bids to be received Friday, March 7, 1952, until the hour of 10:00 A.M. ( c. s. t. ) . The Street Commissioner reported that if the floor in the iron bridge was repaired in first class condition, the :said bridge would have to be closed to traffic. The board agreed that this shouldn't be done until the 20th Century bridge is opened. Mr. Hodgin assumes that. the 20th Century bridge will be open by the middle of March 1952. The . Street Commissioner was advised to keep the floor• patched in passable condition until the new bridge is open to traffic. On recommendation of Captain Eugene Juerling the board approved "No Parking" on the west side of South 2nd Street, from South "A" to South "B" Street. The "No Parking" on the east side of South 18th Street from South "A" to South "B" Streets was taken under advisement.
