OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND
II SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 2 ', 1951.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Ind-
iana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in
said City Friday, September 21, 1951, at the hour of 8:00 & clock
A.M. ( cst).® Mr. Coleman presiding with the following members being
present: Mr. Hodgin and Mr. Haworth. The following business was
had, to-wit:
On motion made seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous
metting were dispensed with.

;u Mr. Arthur ®oss, Principal of Warner School gn.d sevearl others
CP7.' appeared before the board with a petition signed by 81 parents
, of children attending said school, requesting the installation
of a traffic light at the intersection of North 8th arid "C" Street.
This group urged that some police suprvision be given at said in-
tersection until a traffic light is installed, This matter was re-
ferred to the Police Department for investigation and recommend-
ations to thsi board.
Mr. Hodgin moved that "No Parking" signs be installed on South
"A" Street, north side, from South 13th to South 16th Street,
seconded by Mr. Haworth and on voice vote was carried.
On recommendation of the Fire Chief, the board approved the ad-
vancement of James Ghearing from temporary fireman to that of
regular fireman as of September 16, 1951.
On recommendation of the Ch of of Police, the board approved the
appointment of Richard A. Vance sa probationary patrolman as of
October 1, 1951.
On recommendation of the Chief of Police, the board approved the
installation of 20 M.P.H. traffic signs along South "A" Street,
from South 9th to South 14th Streets.
On recommendation of the Mayor, the board approved the Mayor of
appointing at once 11 persons to serve an a committee to make
a traffic survey of the city. All persons will be selected from
the citizens of the city. Their recommendations to be presented
to this board for their consideration.
Mr. Joe Adama, local manager of the bus company, appeared before
the board at the request of the Mayor. Mr. Adams told the board
that the local lines had been losing money and cut in the service
was made to off-set this loss. As soon as patronage justifies
the service will be restored that was curtailed. A further study
will be made by Mr. Haworth to determine what steps can be made
by the city to restore the curtailed service.
IICouncilman Eastman reported that he would have a resolution pre-
pared for the nest Council meeting, which the traffic light for
the Westview school would be installed on Nation Road,west.
The Street Commissioner was granted permission by the board to
sweep and Glen the side streets in the down town area on Sunday
mornings.
The baord allowed the claims in the sum of $18, 755.00
