HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-22-1951 • OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA, JUNE 22, 1951. • Il The Board of Public Works- and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City Friday, June 22, 1951, at the hour of 8:00 o' clock A.M. (cst) . Mr. Coleman presiding with the ffollowing members being present: Mr. Ross and Mr. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the previnus meeting were read and approved. Mr. Harbin, owner of the Harbin Courts on North 12th Street, appeared before the board as requested on the matter of cleaning-up the rubbish around said Court. Mr. Harbin told the board that he would start immed- iately rto clean the Court of all rubbish and put out some rat poison. The Board approved of giving theQueen City Supply Company two car length loading zone in front of their establishement of North 12th street. The Cheif of Poliee presented a letter of resignation of James Saxton, patrolman as of June 19, 1951. The Board approved the resignation. Mr. W.E. Morrey appeared before the Board to report sewer stoppage trouble at 216 N.W. 6th Street. The City Engineer advised Mr. Morrey that an investigation would be made to find out if it is the main sewer that is stopped with any obstructions. On recommendation of the Fire Chief, the Board unanimously approved the appointment of Roland Walls as probationary fireman as. of June 24, 1951. The Board was advised. by Mr-. John Acker, Secy-Treas. of the Indiana Federation of Labor, that Mr. E.A. Gerk-in, Business Agent for. the Hod Carriers Local #1047 was appointed to represent labor with a committee composed of Mr. Ben Deuker and a Governor' s appointee to determine the prevailing wage scale for the construction of Traffic Control Lights for the City of Richmond, Indiana. The Light Plant committee returned a petition for a street light in the alley at the rear of Sevastopol School as not being in favor of the installation. The Board concurred in the rejection for said street light. The Clerk presented a publisherfs affidavit showing that on June 8th and 15th, 1951, a notice had been published in the Richmond Pallidium-Item, a Bailey newspaper of general circulation printed and published in the English language in the City of Richmond, Indiana, containing a N°oti'ce to Coal Dealers of furnishing coal for the several departments of the City for the heating season of 1952, and in such notice the date of June 22, 1951, was fixed ks the time when said Board would receive and open sealed proposals. In case of freight increases this bid will be increased accordingly. Certified Check in the amount of S100.00. The above bids were referred to the City Engineer for tabluations and recommendations. The following Dedications For Alley were presented and approved: DEDICATION FOR ALLEY Dedication of part of Southwest Quarter of Section 31, Township 14 North, Range. West, in the City of Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana, for the purpose of opening a Public Alley. THIS INDENTURE WITNESSETH THAT Erna E. Werner, unmarried, widow of Wm. J. Werner, Kathryn E.
