HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-04-1951 90 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, FRIDAY, MAY 4, 1951. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, May 4, 1951, at the hour of 8:00 o'clock a.m. (CST). Mr. Coleman presiding with the following members being present: . Mr..Ross and Mr. Haworth, The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. On recommendation of the Fire Chief, the Board unanimously approved the in- stallation of a 6" water main to extend approx. 250' south of Hibberd Terrace Addition and a 6" water main to extend approx. 2501 west from Hibberd Drive, with a hydrant at end of said line. Theseadditional water mains to serve as fire protection for this area. The Board concurred with theMayoros request asking that the local bus service be restored pending the strike'settlement. A petition for a "Sanitary Sewer" in the area of South 13th and "0" Streets was referred to the City Engineering Office. The Board approved the request of Mr. Foster° Armstrong to cut the curb for a pri- vate drive-way in front of Lots Nos. 11 and 12 in Reeveston. The Board rejected the request of the Porter Sign Company of erecting signs near the South "G" Street Bridge. • The Board rejected the request of the Vortex Oil Company of removing a street light in front of the Service Station at 27 South 7th Street. On recommendation of the Chief of Police, the Board approved the resignation of Frank Threewit from the Police Department as of May 16, 1951. Mr. Threewit has served on the force continuously since January 7, 1930, and is eligible for the pension. The Board approved the City Engineer and the Light Plant Engineers of preparing the plans and specifications for the installation of the new traffic light system for the City•. Bids will be received to do the work of installing as soon as this work is completed. The Board also approved the purchase of 46 Walk-Don't Walk type of traffic lights for the new traffic light system. Two estimates to repair the City Hall were submitted by the Burton and Sons of Columbus, Ohio. One, to repoint the entire front of the City Hall, remove and recap main dormer sphere, repair gutters, replace 50 slate on roof, remove 5 chimneys to 31 level and cap, relay approx. 101 of main stack with new brick. The approx. cost to be $4,200.00. To replace all ridge rows, repair all metal gutters, paint all metal cornices and gutters with 2 coats of paint, repoint main stack to roof, replace hose dryer, recoat main roof, replace all valleys with new perf. copper, membrane all gutters inside to prevent ice from breaking seams. The approx. cost $8,000.00. The Board approved the City Engineer of preparing the plans and specifications for the work that can be done in the amount of $4,000.00. Bids will be received to do this work. The remainder of the work to be done will have to be included in the 1952 budget. 9 1 The Board ordered the Clerk to prepare an Ordinance to transfer the sum of $50,000.00 from the Special Streets General Fund to Account 425, Streets and Alleys; The sum of $5,000.00 from Special Streets General Fund to Account #j, Payrolls of Special Streets. These transferred sums to take care of the material and labor needed to repair the streets in the city. The Board allowed the claims in the amount of $)+6,767.U.
