SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA, MARCH 16, 1951.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Ind-
iana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said
City, Friday, March 16, 1951, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock A.M. Mr.
Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Ross.
Mr. Haworth was absent. The following business was had, to-wit:
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The Board accepted the resignation of Joseph M. Brennan from the
Fire Department. as of March 13th, 1951. -
On recommendation of the Fire Uhief, the board unanimously approved
the appointment of James E. Ghearing as a temporary fireman as of
March 16, 1951.
On recommendation of the Fire Chief, the board approved the advance-
ment of Richard Huffman from the ranks of a probationary fireman to
that of a regular fireman as of April 1, 1951.
The Fire Chief submitted the request of William Burk, a memebr of
the Fire De artment, for a sixty-day leave of absence to attend a
State Police School. The Board declined the request.
The Board allowed the request of Mr. Robert Watt, to cut the curb
for a private driveway at lots #22 and #23 in R. Phillips Addition.
The request of the Porter Sign Service of Richmond, Indiana, to rent
space for two poster panels on property owned by the city on South
side of the °G° Street bridge where it connects with South 5th
Street, was taken under advisement.
The Clerk was ordered to write the State Highway Commission about
the immediate need of repairing the railings on the North 12th Street
Bridge.
The Clerk was authorized to prepare an Ordinance to appropriate
the sum of $2,067.25 from the City General Fund, to pay the balance
due for the purchase of the new Police Ambulance.
The Board authorized Mr,Q Ross, Mr. Burilson and Don Johnson to at-
tend the Road School at Purdue University on March 26th and 29th
inclusive.
The Board authorized the Clerk to notify Mr. Loren Grim to remove
the high fence around his property at South 19th and Reeveston Road.
This type of fence is in violation of the presentzoning ordinance
and complaints have been received from bieghbors in this area.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication of the receiving of bids
for a new Police car. . The proofs were ordered filed.
The Clerk presented the appraised value of the 1950 Ford, 2 door,
that was appraised by the appraisers appointed by the Wayne Cir-
cuit Court in Dec. Res. No.5-1951. The appraised value was %250.00.

The Board met at the hour of 10:00 oclock A.M. to receive and open .
IIsealed proposals for furnishing a car for the Police Department.
The following bids were recived and opened:

On recommendation of the Chief of Police, the board approved the
IIpurchase of the 1951 Ford at the price of $1, 155.00.
The Clerk presented the proofs of publication. that bids would be
received by this board for the furnishing of Street Materials for
the City, from April 1,1951 to April 1, 1952. The proofs were ord-
ered filed.
The Board met a,t the hour of 10:00 o( clock AM to receive and open
bids for furnishing street materials for the City. The following
bids were received:

200, 000 gals or less, Emulsified Asphalt, furnished and applied
by power distributor as directed by the Street Commissione for
surface. treatment, (All Grades) $0.165 per gal.
25, 000 gals or less, Emulsified Asphalt for patching, in drum
lots, F. O.B. Richmond, Indiana, (All Grades) . . . .$0. 165 per gal.
2,000 tons or less, Bituminous-coated aggregates, EA (Cold Mix)
furnished, laid and rolled . 8.00 per ton.
2,000 tons or less, Bituminous Concrete, AH (Hot Mix) furnished

For furnishing quanities to conform to the Specifications of the
Indiana State Highway Commission at the rate of less than 25 tons

All of the above materials shall conform to the specifications of
Ind. State Highway Comm. All otf the above materials to be produced
by W.L. Magaw Plant.

On recommendation of the City Engineer, the board approved the bid
of W.L. Magaw as above quoted.

The above bids for aggregates ww a referred to the City Engineer for
tabulation and his recommendations.
The board approved the Weights and Measure Inspector to purchase
a full weight-kit in the sum of approx $55.00 for his use to re-
place the antiquated kit.
The board allowed the claims in the amount of $9,836.98.
There being no further business presented, on motion made, seconded
and carried, the meeting adjourned.
