II The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Ri chmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, January 26, 1951, at the hour of 9:00 o' clock A.M. Mr. Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Ross and Mr. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were raed and .approted. ,.\,', The Board approved the Clerk of writing letters of thanks to the Liberty Fire Dept, New Castle Fire Dept and the Connersville Fire Dept. , for their fine assistance given during the fire at Sam Jaffe -,. junk yard, January 23, 1951. The Cambridge City and Centerville Fire :W Depts. were also to be sent a letter of thanks for offering their '�`• equipment on the same date. • The Board approved the Clerk to write a letter of thanks to the fol- lowing organizations for their help during the fire: The Salavation Army The Richmond National Guards, Boy Scouts and the Indiana State Police. The Board approved the payment of a claim in the amount of t1260,00 for the purchase of an pneumatic dri°11 for the Street Dept. This amount to be paid out of the "Barking Meter" fund. II The Board approved the Clerk of preparing a resolution for the apprais- ing of a Street Roller, the property of the Street Dept. and an ambu- lance, the property of the Police Dept. These peices of equipment are to be sold by the City. On recommendation of the Chief of Police, the Board approved the in- stallation of "No Left" turn signs at the intersection of East 6th and Main Streets. City Engineer, Mr. Ross, reported that no material was available for street markers as requested on Northwest "D" Street, from ILL 19th to N.W. llth Streets. The request of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, to install gum machines in the fire houses and police station was not approved. Mr. Lee Ridgeway, Park Supt. , speaking as a citizen, complaimed of the low water pressure in the section of the city which he lives. A test made showed the pressure to be approx. 12 p. s. i. on the taps. This pressure isn' t suufecient enough to operate an automatic water softner. The Board authorized the Clerk to ask Mr. Shoemaker, Water ' Works, Supt. for an explaination of this low water pressure. The Clerk presented the Declaratory Resolution #2-1951, that involved the appointment' of appraisers to appraise two police cars for trade- ins. The appraisers set-out the following appraisements: ' One (1) 1949 Ford $400.00 One (1) 1949 Chevrolet 025.00 The Clerk presented the proofs of publication of the advertisement for the receiving of bids for the purchase of two (2) police cars. The proofs of publication were ordered filed. The Board meets at the hour of 10:00 olclock A.M. to oxen sealed bids for the purchase of two (2) police cars. The following bids were received and opened: WILLOUGHBY CHEVROLET COMPANY: One (1) 1951 (New) 2 door sedan as per specifications; 8 $1,L90. 0 0. 0 Trade-in on 1949 Ford. 940. 00 Net Difference. One (1) 1951 (New) 2 door sedan as per specifications; $l,L9040 690.40 Trade-in 1949 Chevrolet $ 800.00 Net Difference JETT WILLIAMS FORD SALES: One (1) 1951 Ford per specifications; $1, 6o6.6o 625.00 Trade-in on 1949 Ford 981. 60 Net Difference One (1) 1951 Ford per specifications; yap1, 606. 60 $ 600.00 Trade-in on 1949 Chevrolet 91,006. 60 Net Difference The above bids were referred to the Chief of Police and the City Controller to study and recommend to the Board. The Board authorized the payment of 81,000.00 to the Citizens Banking Company of Lynn, Indiana for the following described land: A part of the southwest quarter os section thirty-one (31) , township fourteen (l4) ,- range one (1) west, bounded as follows, to-wit: Begin- ning at the southwest corner of the north half of said quarter section, running thence north six and two-thirds (6 2/3) rods, thence east three (3) rods, thence south six and two-thirds (6 2/3) rods to a stone in the center of Commons Road; thence west three :(3) rods to the place of beginning. The Board allowed the claims in the amount of $ 26, 132.37..
