The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Ind- iana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, . Friday, November 17, 1950, at the hour of 9:00 o'clock A.M. Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. W.E. Ross and MR. C.M. Haworth. The following proceedings were had, to-wit: On motion made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. ' Councilman Law appeared before the Board and,„" pp presented a petition signed by 79 parents of children that attend Joseph Moore School, requesting the installation of a traffic control light on National Road west for school children during the school term. The Board instructed the Clerk of the Board to bring this request to the attention of the Indiana State Highway Commission, that the Board of Public Works and Safety goes on record as recommending traffic control ligl.ts be installed as the petition requested. A letter was received from the Chesepeake and Ohio Railway Company asking this Board for an extension of thirty days to complete the work to performed by it in connection with the North "D" Street Grade Separation Project, from the date of December 2, 1950. On motion made by Haworth, seconded by Ross and unanimously carried the Board approved the extension of thirty days as requested by the Chesepeake and Ohio Railway Company. The Board granted tentative permission to the Morrison-Reeves Library to install an Auto-Page on the curb in front of said lib- rary. The Library official are present plans of installation be- fore final permission will be granted. Said plans to be presented to the City Civil Engineer' s office. • A letter of thanks to the Board was received from the petitioners on the traffic light request at the intersection of South llth and "A" Streets. This traffic light instatlation was reported to be working very satifactory. On recommendation of the Chief of Police, the board approved the resignation of Alger Acton from the Police force as of November 16, 1950. On recommendation of the Chief of Police, Wilson Spicer was promot- ed from probationary patrolman to that of regular patrolman, effect- ive, November 16, 1950. On recommendation of the Fire Chief, the Board approved the instal- lation of approximatel 5001 of 6" water main and installation of one fire hydrant in the new Harvey Hunt Addition to serve the res- idents in said area. ti. Y r7 - The Clerk was instructed to prepare the proper resolution to be presented to Common Council for the appointment ' of three dis— interested freeholders to appraise the property on North Third Street that was condemnded for the replacement of the Doran Bridge. • The. Board approved the recommendation of the City Engineer, that the construction of alleys in the City be' stppped until Spring. The freezing and thawing weather would. not permit good workman— ship. • Mr. Ross reported that the material is in for the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of South 5th and "Gil Streets. The City Attorney was instructed to write the Indiana State High • • — way commission on the condition of Northwest 5th Street (State Highway #35) , from Richmond Avenue to the intersection of #627. Many accidents have been reported caused by the condition of said . - highway. The Police ambulance was recently wrecked by the drop— off on the berm near 9l5 Northwest 5th Street. • No action was taken on the replacement of the Police Ambulance..
