File 2564
Mr, Wm, Edwin Ross
City Civil Engineer,
Richmond, Indiana
Dear Mr. Ross:
The Railway Comapny began the railroad construction
part of the North D Street grade separation project on June 13th,
by starting to move its communication lines toward the river to
enable, after the a.quisition and vacation of Rat Row, the moving
of the main track to a temporary location toward the river suf-
ficlentiy far to permit-. grading for said track on its permanent
location. We have received an attractive proposal from a contractor,
who has heretofore satifa6torily done other work for us, to do
the railroad grading, masonry and track work. The proposal is based.
on the contractor being permitted to proceed promptly with the work
and to get existing railroad facilities well out of his way. To
do this requires the prompt removal of the Sherrow buildings and
the acquisition and vacating of Rat Row; otherwise, the time,
cost and hazard of doing the railroad work probably would be in-
creased materially.
• `I should appreciate anything Mr. Haworth and you do
to get prompt removal of the Sherrow buildings, and early ac-
quistion and vacation of Rat Row. Please let me know when these-
things are done ao that the contractor can do his work with suf-
ficient elbow room.
Yours very truly,
L.T. Ntckols
Chief Engineer.
