AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 19 (MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC ), OF
THE CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON , MISSOURI, BY ADDING A NEW
SUBSECTION PERTAINING TO MANDATORY COURT APPEARENCES FOR
EXCESSIVE SPEEDING.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 19 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic), Sec. 19-103 (Speed limits) is
amended by the addition of a new subsection "G" as follows:
Sec. 19-103. Speed limits.
A. Every driver of a motor vehi c le s ha ll dri ve in a ca reful and prudent manner o n the roadways of th is c ity,
a nd at a rate of sp ee d so a s no t to endanger the property of anothe r or th e life or lim b of any person, a nd
shall exer c ise the hi ghest deg ree of care.
B. No person sha ll operate a vehicle on any stree t in excess of th e speed establi s he d by ord in ance for s uc h
street; provide d that in the absence of a s ign the s peed li m it s on a str eet sha ll be thi rty (30) mil es per hour.
C. No vehicle s ha ll be dri ve n at a speed in excess of fifteen ( 15) mil es per hour with in a ny publi c park in th e
c ity.
D. No person s ha ll operate a vehicle on any street in a sc hool zone in excess of the s p eed esta bli shed by
ordinance for s uc h street. (Ord. 14895, §4, 12-6-20 I I)
E. Nothing in th is section sha ll make the speeds fi xed for s pecific streets la wful in a s it uation requi ri ng a
lo wer speed for compliance w ith the bas ic r ul e dec lared in s ubsection (a) of th is section.
F. Violation of any subsection of thi s secti on in whi c h an acc id ent was invo lved s ha ll also be a v io lati o n of

G. It shall be a violation of this code for a ny pe r son to ope r a te a vehicle in excess of twenty-five (2 5)
miles per hour over a posted o r non-posted speed limit, as dete rmined in Schedule A o f this code, and
such a violation may not be paid out of court a nd s h a ll require a mandatory court appearance.

Section 2 . This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the
date of its passage and approval.
