COUNTY OF MIDDLESEX, FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 2017"
Mayor Reiman asked for a Motion to open the public hearing on
the 2017 Municipal Budget.
PUBLIC HEARING OPEN Upon MMS &C by Councilmembers Diaz and Bellino and
unanimous affirmative vote of the Four (4) Councilmembers
present, the Public Hearing was opened to the public.
Mayor Reiman stated the introduced budget is presented with an
overall tax cut of $205.66 to the average homeowner. This
includes the aggregate taxes of all the taxing entities with the
Borough, the Library, the School Board, the County and the Open
Space. Our total value as a community increased from a billion
dollars in 2011 to $2,450,000 in 2017. This is partly because of
the over billion dollars in construction that we've had in the last
10+ years. The Municipal portion of the taxes, the tax levy will be
reduced from $1.25 per one hundred of assessed value to $1.10.
We are also setting aside approximately $2,200,000 for capital
improvements this year. We are coming in under cap.
$2,200,000 under the levy cap and $1,100,000 under the
appropriations cap. As you know we have eliminated staff
through attrition. We have gone from over 200 full time
employees down to about 140. This budget sets up the priorities
that we need to fund the police department and all Borough
