HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-10-1950 446 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, MARCH 10, 1950. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met_in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, March 10,1950, at 9:00 A.M. Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Mr. W.E. Ross and Mr. C.M. Haworth. The following proceedings were had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. - Mr. Ross moved that the minutes of the meeting of February 24, 1950, be corrected as follows: As. of March 1, 1950 all Utilities of the City would be required to take out permits from the City Engineer's office before work of making a ditch in the street, alley and sidewalk. The Utiliteies to replace the street, alley and sidewalk in condition according to specifications of the City Engineer at the expense of the Utility. This motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously and so ordered. Mr l�on Crabtree presented the plans and specifications for the construction of '`° ,�wa kway as requested by the Dille-McQuire across North 13th Street. On reccommend ation of Mr. Ross, the Board approved the plans and specifications to do the work. A petition signed by 3311. employees of the second shift of the Crosley Corp. protesting the service and overcrowding of the local buses was prented to the Board. Mr Adams, Manager of the local Bus Company, was present and presented a report of the number of buses that were used for- the second shift and the number of persons riding. The report showed that two (2) buses were used and that they were crowded beyond a safety measure. Mr. Adams assured the Board that he would place a extra bus for the second shift at the Crosley for a trial period. Mr. Adams to make a report of the service to the Crosley at the next meeting of the Board, Friday, March 17, 1950. Mayor Meadows protested the crowding of the buses at Sth & Main Street with school children. Mr. Adams assured the Board that a survey would be made to correct this practise if it exists. He will make a report of this survey on Friday March 17th. On recommendation of the Chief of Police, the Board approved the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of South 5th and °G"" Streets. The State Highway of Indiana is to furnish the major material and the City will furnish the instlllatison and electrial energy necessary to operate said signal. The Clerk was authorized to advise the State Highway Commission of this action. Mr. Ross brought to the attention of the Board the practise of the Crosley employees parking cars on the berm of the Williamsburg Pike, that was recently widened by the Street Commissioner to permit said road to be used as a 3 lane road. The Clerk was authorized to bontact.MT. :Jacobson of the Crosley and ask that the employes of the Crosley be notified to stop the parking of cars on the berm of said road. Fire Chief, Williams reported that the new fire truck had been delivered to #3 Hose House. A test will be made Wednesday, March 15th by the Indiana Rating Bureau. The complaint of the alley on the west side as made by Councilman Russell was taken under advisement. The excessive blocking of the R.R. crossing near the Crosley as complained by Councilman Marino was taken under advisement. Street Commissioner, W. Burlison, reported that work had been started on the repair of sidewalks in various sections of the City. 4.47 A petition signed by 12 property owners on Reller Street, requesting the passage of a resolution providing for a •sidewalk and gutter on Reller Street, from Harris Street to the Penna. R.R. The majority of property owners preferring the Barrett or payment;Ip-1an'a-This petition was referred to the City Engineer for plans, spec- ifcations and estimates and in form of a resolution for the conseration of the Board. The Board unanimously adopted Declaratory Resalution No. 1-1950, for the vacation of the twleve foot wide walkway, as platted in the Marcharto4 Addition and abutting lots Nos 7,8,9,10,11 and 12 on the north, from North 2$th Street to North 29th • Street; in the City -of Richmond, County of Wayne, and State of Indiana, which Walk:- way proposed to be vacated is more particullary described as follows, to-.wit: Begin- ning at the northeast corner of Lot No. 7 in the Marcharton Addition and running thence west, along the north line of Lots Nos. 798,9,10,11 and la in said Addition to the east line of North 2Sth Street, thence north, along the east line of North 28th Street, Twelve (12.00) Feet, thnece east, parallel with the north line of said lots Nos. 7,8,9,10,11 and 12 in said Addition, to the west line of North 29th Street, thence south, along the west line of North 29th Street, Twelve (12.00) Feet to the place of beginning. All as shown by a plat of such proposed vacation now on file in the office of the Department of Public Works and Safety of said City. The property which may be injuriously or beneficially affected in said City of Richmond by said proposed vacation is known and described as the walkway herein proposed to be vacated and lots abutting on the south side, thereof, owned by Robert S. Charles- Lots Nos. 10,11 and 12 in Marcharton Addition; William D. and Anna D. Willson-- North Part of Lots No. 7,g and 9 in Marcharton Addition. The Board set Friday, March 31, 1950 at 9:00 a.m. as a date and time that remonstrances may be filed or received by persons interested in ar affected by said Dec. Res. No. 1-1950. There being no father business, on motion duly made,seconded and carried, the - meeting?) adjourned. - s The Board annroved the following street light installations as recommended by the tight Plant Committee: Northwest 16th Street, between N.W. IIB11 St. and Paecock Rd.; Boyer St., between N.W. °Lt° St. and N.W. 11M° St; near address of 106 N.W. +7th St. , and N.W. 6th St. , between Pearl St. and Peacock Rd. .
