OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY; FRID.AY, JANUARY 20,1950.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met
in regular session in its office in the City Hall, Friday, January 20,1950
at 9 :00 o' clock A.M. Mr. H.G . Coleman presiding with the following members
being present: Mr. William E. Ross and Mr. Clifford M. Haworth. The fol-
lowing business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made seconded and carried unanimously, the minutes of theI/
previous meeting were dispensed with.
Mr. Paul Woodward and Idlr. Paul Kring appeared before the Board requesting
that the Board take some action on relwiving the flood water from the
area of the Ravina Park. No action was taken.
The Fire Chief recommended the appointment of William E. Burk as probation-
ary fireman as of February 1,1950. The Board unanimously approved the
recommendation of the Fite Chief.
The Fire Chief recommended the following advancements: Harlan Brown be
advanced to that of Captain and Roland Miller from regular fireman to
that of Lt. as of February 1, 1950. The Board unanimously approved the
recommendations of the Fire Chief.
The Board approve a curb cut in front of Vot # 193 Reeveston Place for
a driveway.
On recommendation of the Mayor, the Board approved the purchase of two
"flasher lights" ( same as the ones in use on N.W. 5th ST. ) and theses
to be installed on National Road West.
The Board approved the advertising for a power distributor and a bull
dozer for the Street Dept. , and also for the Material for the Streets
for the year 1950.
A letter was received from the Brookville Drainage and Tile Company,
advising the Board that said company could not furnish a performance
bond to do the work of constructing the "sanitary sewer" in the Maxwell
Addition. This letter was ordered filed. On motion made by Mr. Haworth,
sed.onded by Mr. Ross and carried unanimously, the bond in the amount of
$200,00 cash was forfeited to the City General Fund. This bond was post-
ed by the Brookville Drainage & Tile Company.
The request of installation of parking meters on North 9th Street
by the MortOnn Center, Inc . , was referred to the Police Dept. for their
study and recommendations.
The Board authorized the Clerk to publish the following notice in 6he
Richmond Pallidium-Item on the following dates , Jan 23, Jan. 30 and
Feb. 6, 1950:

OF THE GRADE CROSSING AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE STEAM RAILROAD
TRACK OF THE CHESEPEAKE AND OHIO RAILWAY COMPANY .AND NORTH "D" STREET
AND CHANGE OF GRADE OF NORTH "D" AND NO: TH 3rd STREETS IN THE CITY

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to all persons, firms and corpor-
ations interested and affected, that the Board. of Public Works and
Sfaety of the City of Richmon, Indiana , did, on the 20th day of
January, fix, determine, assess and awrd damages to all persons, firms
and corporations injuriously affected by the proposed alteration of
the grade crossing at the intersection of the steam railroad track
of the Chesepeake and Ohio Railway Comapny and North D Street in said
City, said alteration to consist of- a combined depression of such
steam railroad track with the elevation of said street, the grade of
North D Street to decrease from the elevated point of the intersection
with such track to the present grade of North D Street at the point -
wDere North D Street intersects North 5th Street, all of 'which is_ set
out in plans and specifications on file in the office of the City
Civil Engineer in theCity Hall in said City.
The Board of Public Works and Safety will receive and hear
remonstrances from all persons, girms and corporations regarding
the amount of ,their respective awards or assessments, and all persons,
firms and corporations interested in and affected by the determination,
assessement and awarding of such damages, and all persons, firms and
corporations owning property which they or it may claim to be damaged
and who have not been allowed or awarded damages ( as above stated) ,
may appear and remonstrate as to such assessement, and set -up any
damages that hey or- it may sustain, if any, all reason of said pro-
posed improvement, at its office in the City Hall in Richmond, Indiaha,
on the 17th day of February, 1950, at the hour of 10 :00 A.M.; and
said Board will consider said assessement and remonstrances, and modify
or confirm ttae said assessements and awards.

by said Board of Public Works and Safety on May 6, 1949, and by the
Common Council of said City on May 16, 1949, and Declaratory Resolution
No. 8-1949 adopted by the Board of Public Works and Safety of Richmond,
Wayne County, Idd_iana, on December 27, 1949, providing for condemnation
and apprropiation of lots and lands.

Bridge as finally approved, by the Board of Public Works and Safety on May 6, 1949, rand by the Com-
mon Council of said City on May 16, 1949, and Declaratory Resolution No.8-1949, providing for the
condemnation •and appropriation of lots and lands, adopted by the Board of Public Works and Safety
on the 27th day of December, 1949, all as provided for by the Acts of the General Assembly of the
State of Indiana for the year 1905 and the Acts of. the General Assembly of the State of Indiana for
the year 1921, and all amendatory and supplemental Acts thereto, the first of such Acts being en-
titled "An Act Concerning Municipal Corporation" and the second of such Acts being entitled "An Act
Providing for the Changing of the Grades of Streets and Highways in Cities Having a Population of
Not less Than 35,000 Nor More Than 45,000 at the intersection of such streets and highways with
staem railroad tracks and streets and interurban railway tracks in certain cases, and for the de-
