OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC: WORKS AND SAFETY OF
THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, AUGUST 12,1949.
The Board of Public Works and Safety og the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in
regular session in its office in the City Building, Friday, August 12, 1949,
at 8:00 o'clock A.M. (O.S.T.). Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding with the following
member being present: Mr Clifford M. Haworth. The following proceedings were
had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried unanimously, the minutes of the
precious meeting were dispensed with.
The request of the First Baptist Church of the City of Richmond of holding a
revivial meeting in a tent on their lot on South A Street, from South 16th
to South 17th Street, was unanimously approved by the Roard.
The request of the Optimist Club of having the privilege of using an addition-
al street for the "Soap Box" Derby was unanimously approved by the Board.
The request of the Phillips Drug Company, 7th and Main Street of a restricted
zone for unloading and loading purposes was unanimously approved by the Board.
The request of the Day Nursery of having the area from North 10th Street to the
first alley west, on both sides of North C Street, of being regarded as a school
zone and permit only five minutes parking on both sides of C Street , was refer-
red to the Chief of Police to investigate.
The Board unanimously adopted a resolution in memory of the death of W.Ray
Stevens, former City Purchasing Ageht and Manager .6f the Light Plant.
Pursuant to advertisement in the Richmond Paklidium-Item newspaper, the Board
met at the hour of 10:00 o'clock A.M. (D.S.T.), to hear and consider any
remonstrances that ware filed d or presented on the following .Improvement Res-
olutions:
Improvement Resolution #924-1949, to improve the alley between Northwest "B"
Street and Northwest "C" Street, from Northwest gth Street to Northwest 10th
Street, by construction of a concrete roadway the full width of said Alley.
A remonstrance was filed against said improvement. The Board referred the re-
monstrance and petiotion to the Engineering Dept. to check all names on both
petition and remonstrance as to being resident freeholders in said area.
Improvement esolution 4925-1949, to improve the alley between West Main Street
and "orthwest "A" Street, from Northwest gth Street to Northwest 10th Street,
by construction of a concrete_roadway the full width of said alley. No re-
monstrance was filed and the Board unanimously confirmed said resolution.
Improvement Resolution 4926-1949, to improve the alley between Northwest C
Street and Peacock Road, from Northwest 8th to Northwest 10th Street, by
construction of a concrete roadway the full width of said alley. No remon-
strance was filed or presented. The Board unanimo lsy confirmed said Resol-
ution.
Improvement Resolution #927-1949, to improve the alley between Peacock Road
and Northwest "D" Street; from Northwest 9yh Street to Northwest "D" Street
by construction of a concrete roadwa' the fuul width of said alley. No re-
monstrance was filed. jhe Board unanimously confirmed said resolution.

presented. The Board unanimously confirmed said resolution. �.
Improvement Resolution #929-194.9, to improve the first. alley south of and par-
allel with National Road,afrom Southwest 1st Street to Southwest 2nd Street, by
construction of a concrete roadway the full width of said alley. There was a
remonstrances filed. The Board referred said remonstrance and petition to the •
Engineering Dept. to check all names as to being resident freeholders in said
area. :, .
Improvement Resolution #930-19l+9, to improve the area in the Maxwell Addition,
bounded on the north by Southwest E Street, on south by Southwest "G" Street, on
the west by the Abington Pike and- on the east by Southwest 1st Street, -by con-`
struction of a "Sanitary Sewer" in said area. There were several residents that
live in said arae, that remonstated against the proposed improvement. The Board
took improvement resolution under advisement.
Improvement Resolution #931-194+9, to improve the area in the Parry Addition,
on South L Street, from South 9th Street to South 13th Street, by construction
of a "Sanitary Sewer" to serve persons in said area. Ilb;eremonstrane was filed
or presented. The Board unanimously confirmed said resolution.
The Board allowed cliams in the amount of $ 37,055.66.
