The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in ite office in the City Ha11,in said city, Friday, May 27, 1949, at 8:00 o'clock A.M. (c.s.t.). Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding.with the following members being present: Mr. Wm. Edwin Ross and Mr. Clifford M. Haw- orth. The following proceeedings were had, to-wit: On motion duly made,seconded and carried unanimoulsy, the minutes of the previuos meeting were dispensed with. Mr. Ross, City Engineer, reported to the Board that he had contacted Mr. G. DeBolt about cleaning out the North 17th Street Dam gates. Mr. DeBolt gave Mr. Ross assurance that he would have the gates cleaned out in the near future. Mr. Arron Jurges, appeared before the Board and requested a traffic sig- nal at the intersection of North 12th & A Streets. This request was taken under advisement by the Police Department. opening The request of an Allef/between Northwest D Street and the south line of the John-Manville Company was reported still under advisement by the City Engineer. Mr.J.McCurdy, appeared before the Board to present plans of a new drive- in store on the south side of thec'present McCurdy Grocery on Northwest 13th Street. Mr. McCurdy aked the Board to consider the restriction of parking of cars approximately 2008 south of the frnnt of the grocery on the west side of North 13th Street. This was taken under advisement by the City Engineer. The request of the Downs Brothers Furniture Store on North 10th Street for a restricted parking space in front of 9 North 10th Street was taken under advisement by the Board. The request of Rev. A.W. Faulkner for a restricted parking area for his church at North llth and H Street was taken under advisement byithe Police Dept. The Street Commissioner was adivised of the condition of a manhole cover at the,.;intersection of.iSouth 4th & A Streets, and also the condition of some of the streets as complained by Councilman Russell and Marino. The Board declined the request of Mr. Leadbetter, West 8th & A Street, 11/ of building a stone wall on the south side of the residence at West 8th & A Streets. The Board authorized the installation of signs at both approaches of the iron bridge in Happy Hollow. Both signs to read fSLOW=NARROW BRIDGE AHEAD". On motion duly made, seconded and carried unanimoulsy,the Board authorized the Police Dept. to purchase two new cars for the Dept. The Clerk was also authorized to prepare the proper resolution for the appointment of appais- ers to appraise One 1948 Ford two-door sedan f'r a trade-in allowance. _ Mr. Ross, City Engineer reported that his investigation of the rough places in the Williamsburg Pike were not only caused from the expansion of 360 the expansion joints, but the road had blown up in several places. The Board authorized the Clerk to notify the Street Commissioner to pEoceed at once to repair the said. road.. - The Board unanimoulsy approved the purchase of 52 additional parking meters to be placed in spots that were previuosly used as restricted park- ing areas. - .
