HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-04-1949 33Q. OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, MARCH 4,1949. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana met in regular session in its office in the City Building in said City, Friday, March 4, 1949 at 9:00 A.M. o'clock. Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding with the following member being present; Mr. W.E. Ross. Mr. Haworth was absent. The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the preceeding meeting were dispensed with. On the recommendation of the Chief of Police, the Board disapproved the request 111 of James Taggart, Jr. of a one car length parking restricted zone in front of the residence of 1133 East Main Street. The Board approved the request of Sgt Eugene Juerling of a leave of absence from the Police Dept. for one week commencing Mar. 4,1949. The Board approved the request of Mr. L. Ridgeway. , Park Supt., of purchasing . material to repair ovens and furnaces in the Glen Miller Park. A sign that is obstructing the view of traffic in the front of Delucio Grocery at East 30th and Main Street was referred to the Traffics Div. and Street Comm to investigate. _ The Board approved the Fire Chief of sending a Fire Truck to Ft. City, Ind. to standby during the Regional Basketball Tourney that is being held at Muncie, March 5th, 1949. _ Street Commissioner, John V. Schneider, reports that his Dept. has started the street patching program in the City. He has asked that the Engineering Dept. assist him in making a survey of all the streets in the City that are in need of resurfacing. The Board approved the Clerk of writing' to Mr. Chas. Baker, 1411 So.'BJ" St. and request him to dispose of a large lumber pile on South "L" S_ treet:,that is -_, a nuisance. This pile of lumber to be disposed of by the 11 day of March,1949 or the City will take action to remove the same. The Board approved the Clerk of contacting the Water Works 'in regards to what reply was received from the Main Office in regards to the installation of a 6" water main in thevarear of South 13th and "01° Street. Fire Chief Williams reported that he had investigated the complaints of the Chasteens Oil Station on the Williamsburg Pike. These complaints were that of said station burning old car chassis too near the road and also making a junk pile at said place. Mr. Williams reported that this practise would cease. A letter was received from the Richmond Retail Merchanta Assn. in regards to the Trash Collection tan the City. The following was stated (1) Trucks would collect from the uptown district on regular schedule and perferably not before 3 P.M. (2) That trash blown or scattered during loading should be swept and collected; (3) More care could avoid trash from overloaded trucks enroute to the dump; (4) That trap swept into piles on Main St. by thevState men should be collected when swept, instead of being left for traffic and wind to rescatter. ,It is also adtised that each Merchant must cooperate to the best of his ability , ,to make:.this a sucess. Street Comm. Schnieder stated that he would try and work :out a plan that would meet with the above suggestions submitted by the Assn. 331 • The Board allowed claims in the amount of Trerebeing no further busihess to be brought to the attention of the Board, on proper motion and seconded there was adjournement. 411 mo --e • Chairman Attest; ecre .
