OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE°
CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA,FRIDAY, FE`13RLARY 11, 1949.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in
regular session in its office in the City building of said City, Friday, February
11, 194+9 at 9:00 A.M. Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding with the following members being
present; Messrs. W.E. Ross and C.M. Haworth. The following business was had to-wit:
The minutes og the previous meeting were dispensed:: with.
Seven members of the Richmond Retail Merchants were present to discuss the trash
conditions in the alleys of the business district. Mayor, Lester E. Meadows opened
the dicussion asking that there should be more c000peration between the City and
the Merchants in regards to the disposing of the trash in the business area. Several
members of the Merchants were of the opionion that each case was an individual case
and should be treated as such. The facilities of disposing of trash in almost every
case is different. Incenterators were stressed but no action taken.
The Board approved that the Street Commissioner contact each store operator and work
out the best method of disposing cIf the trash. The Fire Chief was also authorized to make
a survey of the alleys in the business area and his report to be received-latthe next
meeting.
The Board approved the City Contr i&ier of bonding the policemen that make the col-
lection of the money from the parking meters.
The Board approved the Police Chief of contacting the Indiana R.R. to remove the
bus stop sign at North 19th and E Street.
The Board approved the request of the Chief of Police of the disposing of some
junk at the Police Radio Station.
Pursuant to legal advettizement for the receiving of bids for motorcycles for the
Police Department, bids were opened. One bid being received from the Wright Motor-
cycle _Co. This bid was referred to th Police Dept. for recommendation.
Mr. Walter Sqiures appeared before the Board in reagrds to the West gth St. water
hole condition. Mr. Sqiures reported that the School. Board had receiced several
complaints of the water standing for len biy periods in the rear of Northwest 7th
Street Park. Mr. Squires asked what the City expected to do to releive this sit-
uation. Mr. Ross advised Mr. Squires that the City would take neccesa ,y steps to
eliminate this condition. The Sanitary sewer in this area is now overloaded and
the only possible way to carry this water away would be to entend the storm sewer
on Northwest B Street.
The Board allowed claims in the sum of $ a°?i 3 7 7+ 7 7
There being no further business to be brought to the attention of yhe Board,
Mr. Ross moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Haworth and carried.
