HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-04-1949 325 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE - CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY-4,1949. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Building in said City, Friday February, 4+, 194+9-at 9:00 A.M. Mr. H.C. Coleman presiding with the follow- ing members being present: Messrs. W.F. Ross and C.M. Haworth. The following business was had to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. Councilmen Law and Eastman appeared before the Board and complained of the condition of the City streets. Mr. Ross told these members that He and Mr. Schnieder, Street Comm. were working on the future repair of the streets as soon -ea the weather pe'r'mits. Councilman Law reported that his committee on the study of "No Parking" zones would make a complete report when the parking meters are put into reg- ular operation. Mr. Adams, Acting Manager of the Indiana Rail Road appeared before the Board to receive any compianits and none were reported. 1 The Board approved the request of the Fire Chief of the purchase of acetelene and oxgen tanks at a cost of $)40.00 for use in the fire department. i The Board authorized the Clerk to notify Mr. Joe Mercurio thatwill have to remove his large truck from the Market House lot. This lot now prohibits the parking of trucks any time of the day or night. Councilman Baldwin appeared before the Board requesting a guard rail to be placed at the end on Northwest "J" Street at the intersection of Bridge Ave. This was referred. to the City Engineer to study anf his recommendation be received at a later date. The Board approved the request of Mr. Norm Jenkins to make a curb cut at 1517, 1519 and 1521 North A Street for an entrance to the parking lot in the rear of the new Kutter Grocery Store on EE5tMain Street. A petition was recived for the installation of an arc light in the alley in th the rear of 116 Ft. Wayne Ave. This petition was signed by 32 residents in the area of North 5th , North D. Street and Ft. Wayne Ave. The Board ordered this petition filed, IIIThe Board authorized the Clerk to notify the President of the Richmond Retail Merchan, s Assn. that the Board would like to meet with the Board of Directors of said Assn, in regards tothe trash nand debris situation that has been created in recent weeks by the different stores in the business district. This was brought to the attention of the Board by the Hon. Mayor Meadows. The Board authorized the City Engineer to confer with Mr. Darr, Wayne County State Highway Dept., before a letter is sent to the State Highway Comm. in regards to the condition of the highways that run through the City. The Board allowed claims in the sum of $ �I I? 3 . 3 S There being no further business to be brought to the attention of the Board, Mr. Ross moved to adjourn, seconddd by Mr. Haworth and carried unanimously by /If the Board.
