HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-19-1948 304 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OP PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 190 1948: The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in reg ular session i;} the office of the Board in the City Building in said City, Fri- day, November 19, 1948, at 9:00 A.M. Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding with the following members being present: Messrs. W E. Ross and 0.M Haworth. The following procedding were had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were .dispensed with. Mrs. Fred Anderson, Pres. of the Ed. of Public Health and Nursing of Richmond. InU. appeared before the Board requesting more parking space in front their office on South 7 S 7th St. This was taken under advisement by the Board. Mr. Petty of the Indianapolis Star, a newspaper, requested permission of the Board to_hang newspaper boxes on the city light posts in sections of the City for their patrons to use in purchasing papers. This request was denied by members of the board. The Board allowed the request of Mr. Howard Uphaus to cut a curb in front of his res- idence, 414 So. 22nd St. for a private drivway. Mayor Lester E. Meadows reccomended that Mr. John Schn.e.ider, to be appointed to that of the Street Commissioner of the City. The Baord unanimously approved the reccomend ation of the Mayor of the appointment of John Schneider as Street Commissioner. Take effect December l,- 1948. A petition for the installation of adequate water supply for fire protection in the atea of South 13th and Q St. was received at the meeting of Friday November 12th and referred to a committee composed of the City Engineer and Fire Chief to investigate and report to the Board. This committee made its recommendations as follows after a thorugh investigation: A six inch (6) line be run from South 13th and "0" St., south to South "Q" Street, then east approx. five hundred feet (500ft) on South "Q" St. There should be installed a fire hydrant at So. 14th & p, St. ; at So. 13th & "Q" St. ; and one at the end of the five hundred feet of line east of So. 13th & "Q"St. This to serve as fire protection for this area. The Board approved the Clerk to notify the Water Works of this action. Pursuant to advertising in the Richmond Pallidium, the Board opened bids at 9:30 A.M. for the purchase of a tank wagon as per advertised for the Sewage Traetment Plant of Richmond. Item 2, 20 days The above two bids were referred to the City Engineer Department for study and tabulation and their recommendation to be presented to the Board. Pursuant to advertising in the Richmond Pallidium that the Board of Works would receive sealed proposals for 1- 750 GPM pumper for the Fire Dept on Friday, November 19th, 194g at 9:30 A.M. There was one bid received and opened. This bid from the Midwest Fire & Safety Eqpt. Inc. , Indianapolis, Indiana, for the Maxim Motor Company. The bid as follows: 1 each Model 2357 Maxim custom-built 750-GPM triple combination motorized fire appartus, with Hale 2-stage centrifugal pump, as per the encl, specs $19,111.88 or 1 each Model 14+17 Maxim custom-built 750 GPM triple combination motorized fire apparatus, with Hale 2-stage centrifugal pump, as per the encl. specs $16,494.55 Delivery in approx.. 150 wdorking days from receipt of order. Any item listed, and not desired may be deducted at full list price. The above bid was referred to the Fire Chief, City s'nginerr and City Controller to tabulate and make their recommendation to the Board. The Board authorized the Clerk to return the certified check in the sum of $100.00 to the Chicago Pump Company of Chicago, Illinois. This check accompanied a bid of the said company to furnish diffuser for the Sewage Treatment Plant. The committee in charge of the tabulations of the bids on the tank wagon for the Sewage Treatment Plany after a thorough study of said bids recommended that the bid of Kenneth William, Inc. be accepted. The 07 International chassis and the Richmond Steel Service Inc. -tank to be mounted. This was unanimously approved by tle Board. The committee in charge of the tabulations of the blueprint machine for the City Engineering Department after a thorough study of said bids, recommended that Board accept the bid of the Charles Bruning Company, Inc., Chicago, Illinois. The Board approved unanimously the bid of the Charles Bruning Inc.,Chicago Illionois. The committee in charge of the tabulations of the Fire truck bid after a thorough study of the bid, recommended that the Board accept the bid of the Midwest Fire & Safety, Equipment company. The Maxir Model #2357 motorized fire pumper in the amount of $19,111.55. The Board unanimously approved the reccomendation of the committee to purchase the Model #2357 motorized fire pumper. The Board allowed claims in the amount of $3,354.43.
