HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-29-1948 2 99 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC ;WORKS AND SAFETY, CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, OCTOB ER 29, 1948. - The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the office of said Biard, Friday, October 29th, 1948 at 9:00 A.M. Mr: ;HO. Coleman presiding with the following members of the Board being present: Messrs. W.T'. Ross and C.M. Haworth. The following business was had to-wit: 'II/ The minutes of the previuos meet`ing were dispensed with. Councilman Law appeared before the Board and presented complaint from res- idents on West Main Street in regards to the restricted parking on the North side of West Main Street. The Clerk of the Board was ax horized by the Board to write the State Highway Comm. and ask for a representative to make a survey of the present conditions that exist on West Main St. Mr. Lawcalso offered a complaint of an Oil Truck being parked on South A Street for considerable lengths of time. This was referred to the Police Dept. to investigate. Mr. Ross reported that bids for the construction of the Oakland Ave sewer would be received Friday, November 5th, 1948. Mr. Don Johnson reported that the reflectors had been placed under the Main Street bridge on the abuttments that are on Whitewater Blvd. Mr. Johnson also reported that the pedestrian bridge had been completed on the south side of the north bridge in Happy Hollow and work had been started on the Iron bridge for the pedestrian walk. The Board authorized the Clerk to prepare the necessary advertising for pub- lication to receive sealed bids for one(l) 750-gallon motorized fire truck for the Fire Dept, one(1) tank wagon for use at the Sewage Disposal Plant, one blue print machine for use in the Civil City Engineers office. The Bids to be re- ceived, Friday, November 19th,19)S at 9:30 a.m. The Board approved the following plan for future petitions for installation of street lights in the City: The petitions after being received by the Board will be referred to the light plant and City Engineer for recommendation of installation. The request of the City furnishing the necessary help and free current for the christmas lights on the streets of the City as asked for by the Richmond Retail Merchants Bureau was approved by the Board. The complaint from Miss Iva Medearis, 1610 North C Street, of the property owner Heated at North 16th and C Street, piping the storm water into the San- itary sewer was refferred to the Dept. of Sanitation and Building Inspector to investigate and report to the Board. 111 Chief of Police, L. Rohe, recommended that 2 hour parking on the north side of North A Street between North 3rd street and North 4th Street. The Board approved the recommendation of the Chief of Police and was so ordered. The Board authorized, the Clerk to notify Mr. Fred Pickett, Postmaster, that it was the opionion of the Board that the Mail box in the front of the Friends Station was a traffic menace to westbound traffic on said Main Street. The Board would like to have the mail box moved to the west side of the station on North west Fifth Street. Mr Henry B. Steeg of the H.B. Steeg and Associates met with the Board and the Aiemb,ers of the Public Utilities Committee of the Common Council. Mr. Steeg 300 gave a very through report on the operation of the present Disposal Plant and pointed out the need of expanding the plant to take care of the future needs, Afetr a discussion, Mr Ross moved that the Board adoptrthe following Resolution, seconded by Mr. Haworth and carried unanimously by the Board. The following Resolution was adopted: RESOLUTION NO. 5-1948. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHm MOND, INDI.ANA, that there should be established a "Sanitary District" in the City of Richmond, Indiana, as is authorized by the Provisions of Chapter 258 of the Acts of 1921, Chapter 157 of the Acts of 1917, as amended by Chapter 15 of the Acts of 1929, and by laws amendatory and supplemented thereto, and that it be to the best interests of the City of Richmond to establish and operate said district under the provisions of said Chapter 157 oftthe Acts of 1917, as amend- ed and by such establishment to create a Department of Public Sanitation and a special taxing district as prov&ded in the said Acts, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution together with a copy of the proposed Ordinance creating said "Sanitary District" be presented to the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, for their consideration.
