The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Building of said City, Friday, October Sth, 194E at 9:00 a.m. Mr. W.E. Ross presiding with the following member being present, Mr. C.M. Haworth. The folMnwing business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The Board approved Mr. Ross and Mr Morganroth of attending the National Assoc. of Sewage Works Convention #eld in Detroit Michigan, Oct. 1gth to and includ- ing October 21, 194S. The Board approved the recommendation of Police Chief , L. Rohe , of the in- stallation of a street light at the intersection of forth l8th and "J" Streets. The Clerk was instructed to notify the Light Plant of this action. The Board referred the following request for street lights to the Traffic Division and Engineering Dept. to investigate and report to the Board; North "C" Street at the intersection of the alley between North 16th and North 17th Streets; North "CP. Street at the intersection of the alley between North lgth and North 19th Streets; At the intersection of the alley between North 19th and 20th Streets on North "A" Street; At the intersection of Northwest "K" and Harris Streets. Pursuant to legal advertisment in the Richmond Pallidium newspaper for bids to be received and opened at 9:30 A.M. October Sth, 194S. Thera being only one bid received and that from the Wailers Motors, Inc. The bid was refer- red to a committee composed of the Police Cief and City Engineer to report. The bid was as follows: 1 1949 Ford Tudor, 6 cylinder, 95 horsepower motor, equipped with fresh air heater, door covers, seat covers, spare wheel, tire and tube, and undercoat; $1526.15; Trade in allowance on 1946 Chevrolet Coach $676.00; Total amount of Unit $850.00. The Appnaaiser value on the 1946 Chev- rolet was $500.00. The committee as appointed to investigate recommended that the Board approve the bid of the Waller Motors, Inc. The Board approved the recommendation of the committee. The Clerk to notify the Wailers Motor, Inc. of this action. . oss reporteil''that he and the Street Commissioner had investigated the sidewalk condition in front of the property located at 47 Richmond Ave. Mr. Ross reported that the sidewalk had been repaired. The Board approved that the following letter from the Penna R.R. be made a record of the minutes of this meeting: The Pennsylvania Railroad, Western Region Union Station, Chicago, 6, Illinois October 5,194S. Mr. Ather J. Reeg, Secretary Board of Public Works and Safety, City of Richmond. Richmond, Indiana Dear Mr. Reeg: Referring to your letter of September 20th, 1948 to Mr. J.D. Moffat, our Chief Engineer, Western Region, and my reply of September 23, 194g, relative to certain maintenance and operating matters local to the City of Richmond: Continued. Our General Superintendent at Indianapolis, Mr. C.F. Adams, advises that he called upon the Honorable Mayor, Lester E. Meadows and Mr. Ross,Engineer of the City of Richmond, and tsat as a result of his visit the following action is being taken on the five items mentioned in your letters 1. Crossing conditions being corrected--material now on hand for this _ work. 2.Division Engineer L.W. Green of the Columbus Division to continue dis- cussions with Mr. Ross concerning the widening of North 19th Street Bridge in order to make this bridge more popular for vehicular traffic and serve as a relief for the grade crossing. 3. Division Engineer R.W. Riser of the Cincinnati Division is to contact Mr. Ross concerning installation of flashing light signals at Williams- burg Pike crossing, after which the Division will submit recommendations based on detailed survey of the situation. 4. It was agreed that definite progress is being made tolrelieve the ex- cessive blocking of North 8th Street. This matter will be further polic- ed, to the end that there should be no further complaints. 5. It was determined that the major complaint concerning the East Yards was the result of blowing down of engines. This pperation varies season- ally with the amount of encrustments in the local water supply. It must be done at the engine houses and is necessary to secure proper service from our engines. The local people will make every effort to minimize the noise in the yards. Vary truly yours, (s) P.T. Feucht, Vice Pres. The Board instructed and authorized the Clerk to noPify the Light plant of of the condition of the streets in the Peacock Treeace Addition. Those streets are in need of repair due to the installation of the ornamental street lights in said area. The Hoard allowed claims in the amount of $23,95g. 9• There being no further business to be brought to the attention of the Board Mr. Haworth moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Ross and carried unanimously by the Board.
