CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1,
1948.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,Indiana, met in
regular session in its office in the City Building of said City, Friday, Oct-
ober 1, 194+8 at 9:00 A.M. Mr. Haraild G. Coleman presiding withethe following
members being preseny; Messrs. C.M. Haworth and W.E. Ross. The following bus-
iness was had, to-wit:
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The Board approved the request of the Wayne County Democratic Centra1 _G0e
mmittee to hang a sign from the Wescott building over Main Street to the
Murray building. Providing a liabilty insurance policy of the sum:of 20/10
Thousand,Dollars is taken out.
The Board approved the request of the Mayor, Lester E. Meadows, to have the
Street Dept. to have the sweeper out on all streets during the Fall. This
will aid in keeping the sewers from clogging with leaves and gravel.
The Board did not approve the request of Mr. Archie Cassanto of using a
sound system truck on the streets of the City.

The Board authorized the Clerk to write all persons responsible for/the
recent Firemen's convention a sucess.
The Board received a letter of thanks to all the City Officials and manu-
factures of the City for the Splendid cooperation that was given to Leslie
Williams and his Wife,gat the Firemans Convention.
Chief of Police Rohe recommended that "No Parking" on the East side of
North 19th Street, from North D to North E Streets. The Board approved the
recommendation of the Chief of Police.
The Board approved that the Street Dept. place cinders and gravel upon the
streets in Morton Lake Addition. This will enable the City Dump trucks to
get over said streets during bad weather to pick up the trash in said area.
Fire Chief, L. Williams recommended the following appointments and the Board
approved them; Roderick Rohe from probationary fireman to that of regular
fireman as of Oct. 1,1948; Orville Goens from regular fireman to that of
Lieutendant; Leland Ramey as prbationary fireman as of October 1, 1948.
The Board approved the Wayne County Republician Central Committee the use
of the following streets in the City for a parade to be held in the P.M.
Thursday, October 7th, 194g; North Twelfth and A Streets south to Main St,
west on Main Street to West 1st and Main, south on West lst Street to White-
water Blvd, south on Whitewater Blvd to Southwest G Street.
Mr. Ross reported that in a recent meeting with Mr. Adams of the Penna. R.R.
the following items were brought to his attention; R.R. crossing repairs.
widening North 19th St. bridge, flicker light near the Crosley and excessive
blocking of the North 8th Street crossing. Mr. Adams assured Mr. Ross that
these items would be given immediate attention.
The request of a street light at North 18th and J Street was referred to the
Police Department and City Engineer Department, to investigate.

The Board approved that Robert Smith, City Building Janitor, receiving
additional pay out of the Winter Fireman Account to bring his pay up to
$200.00 per month, same as he will receive during the year 1949. Mr. Coleman
has conferred with the State Board of Accounts and they approved it. .
The Board allowed claims in the amount of $ 23, 302.?7
There being no further business to be brought to the attention of the Board
Mr. Haworth moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Ross and carried unanimously by
the Board.
