HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-24-1948 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY ESEPT 3Rt ' 24TH, 1948. The Board of Public_ Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Building of said City, Friday, Sept- ember 24th, 194E at 9:00 A.M. Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding with the followting mem hers being present.: Messrs. W.E. Ross and C.M. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. Mrs. Dell Smith. 421 South 12th Street, appeared before the Board and pre- sented a complaint of a dog on South 12th Street of biting her children on the way to Garfield School. The owner of this dog resides at 231 South lath St. This complaint was referred to the Police Department to investigate. The Board approved the recommendation of the Chief of Police that Mr. Richard T. Mason be appointed as probationary patrolman as of October 1,1948. The Board approved the recommendation of the Chief of Police that Mr. George A Bell be appointed as probationary patrolman as of October 1, 194S. The Board accepted the resignation of Leland Ramey, patrolman on the Police Department as of October 1, 194S. The Board approved the recommendation of the Fire Chief that Leland Ramey be appointed as probationary fireman as October, 1,194S. The Board accepted the resignation of Gilbert Gee from the fire Department as of October 1, 194S. Mayor, Lester E. Meadows reported to the Board that the Street Department of the City had spread upon the alleys in the City, 1,055 yards of cinders from the Municipal Light Plant. The Board approved the owner of Lot #10, South 12th and J Street to tap in- to the Sanitary Sewer. Councilman Myers presented a complaint of the traffic conditions that are existing at North 19th and E Street. Mr. Meyers recommended that parking of cars be prohibited on the esat side of North 19th Street from North D Street to North E Street. This was referred to the Traffic Division to investigate and report to the Board. The Board authorized Mr. Burkhart to investigate the sidewalk conditiohs at West Main Street and First Street as complained By Mr. Colglaizer at a recent Council meeting. The Clerk of the Board received a reply from Mr. J.D.=Moffat, Chief Engineer of the Western Region of the Penna. R.R. of the desire to discuss the certain maintenance and operating matters of the City of Richmond. Mr. Moffat informed the Board that Mr. C.E. Adams who had jurisdiction over the Richmond territory would promptly contact the Board with the view to discuss the matters in an appointed session with the Board in the near future. 29 • The Board alldwed claims in the amount of .32, 949.91. There being no further business to be brought to the attention of the " Board, Mr. Ross moved to adjourn,, seconded by Mr. Haworth and carried unm• animously by the Board. Chairman Attest; City It •
