OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
CITY OF RICHMOND,INDIANA, AUGUST 13th,1948.
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Ind-
iana met in regular session in 'the office of the Board,Friday August
13th,1948, at 9:00 a.m. o'clock. Mr.- H.G. Coleman presiding with the
following members being present; Messrs. W.E. R6ss and Mr.C .M. Haworth.
I/ The following business was had, to-wit:
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Mr. Mayer,Hays Track Appliance and Mr. Shendler, Shendler Implement
Co. appeared before the Board and presented their views on the re-
stricting the parking of cars on North A Street from N. 3rd to N. 4th
Streets on the North side of A Street. The Board referred the further
investigation to the Fire Dept, Police Dept. and City Engineer and re-
port back to the Board at the next regular meeting.
The Board approved the recomendation of the Police Chief of placing
a street light in the rear of Vaile Grade School . The Clerk to notify
the Light Plant of this action.
The Board approved the Chief of Police of sending two men from the
Police Dept. to Indianapolis fpr five days to attend a Drunk-O-Meter
school.
The Chief. of Police recomended that the Board study the need of a
pedestrian brige _at the iron bridge near Whitewater Blvd in Happy Hol..
. low. The Board beferred this to the City Engineer and TrafficeDiv. to
investigate and report to the Board.
The Board referred a petition signed by 22 residents in the area of
Warner School requesting a street light be placed in the alley on
North C Street between North 7th and Fort Wayne Avenue to the Traffic
Div. to investigate and report to the Board.
The Board approved that the City Engineer prepare plans and the prop-
er advertising for the installing of the Storm Sewer at Oakland Ave and
South Q Street.
The Board approved the Adam H. Bartel Compnay of erecting a bridge ove
er Elm Street from the Bartel building on North to the warehouse in the •
rear. The Clerk was instructed to notify the Bartel Co. of this action
and that all work done would be after the approval of the City Engineer
and Building Inspector.
11 The Board disapproved the Deep Freeze Store of relead.ing baltons at
Sth and Main Street for advertising purposes.
The Board instructed the Clerk to notify the State Highway that the
bridges in the City that are to be maintained by the State are in need
of repairs for safety reasons. �i
The Board allowed claims in the amount of 7 g e. 33
The Board approved the Clerk to prepare the advertising for a new car
for the Park Dept. to be received at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 3 1948.

The Board approved Mr. L/ Ridgeway of notifying the property owners
of dead trees in front of 135 N. B."E"street and. 105 North 5th Stteet
to remove the same.
There being no further business to be brought to the attention of
the Board, Mr. Haworth moved to adjourn, secohded by Mr. Ross and
carried unanimously by the Board.
