The Board of-Public--Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, -Indiana met in regular session in the ,office of the Board, Friday. July 23rd, 1948 at 9;00 ovelock A.M. Chair- man Coleman presiding with the following members being present; Mr. W.E. Ross and Mr. C.M. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit:- The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Bradway of the Midwest Casket Company appeared before the Board requseting per- mission for said company to erect a loading platform on Northwest First Street near the Pennsy R.R. This was referred to the City Engineer to investigate and report to the Board. - - Mr. Louie Erbs apppeared before the Board requesting permission to cut a manhole in the front of 417 North Sth Street. This to be used for a coal chute. This was re- • ferred to the City Engineer to investigate and report. Mayor, Lester E. Meadows , appeared before the Board and requested that the Board investigate the traffic lights at-East 16th and Main Streets. The Mayor has received several complaints of near accidents at this corner. This was referred to the Traffice Division to investigate and report. The Board approved the recommendation of the Mayor of having the Street Depa rtment of hauling cinders from the Light Plant to alleys in various parts of the city that are in need of filling to eliminate the ruts in said alleys. The Board approved the recommendation of the Chief of Police of having North 16th from Main to the first alley north pabnte yellow on the curb, ond.tfieoEaSt.esidezbf'l6tli Strebt 'and:>painting the west side of 16th Street from the first alley North of Main Street to North A. Street. This will give the heavy trucks and traffic better clearance. The Board accepted the resignation of Earl -L. Witherby, patrolman of Police Dept. as of July 20th, 194S. The Board approved the recommendation of Dhief of Police ,L. Rohe, of the appoint- ment of Troy B. Woolf, Jr. as probationary patrolman. The Boardapproved the Police Cruisers of :reporting all dead trees that come -to their attention in the city. The report to be given to the Clerk of the Board. Councilman Myers complaint of the condition of the Glen Court Street between North . 21st and 22nd Streets was brought to the attention of the Board. Mr. Burkhart advised - the Board that nothing-could be done to this street to eliminate the dips as present condition carries away the water in rainy weather. If these were eliminated the water would stand in the gutters. The streets would have to be rebuilt to eliminate the dips. (The Board allowed claims in the amount of $25 042.04. The Board authorized the-Clerk to advise Mr. J.R. Harrington that the full amount of assessement and interest shouid be paid for on Lot #14 i Mendenhall Addition for • the ornamental Street Lights. - Ca- Chairman Attest; Clerk.
