HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-28-1948 OFFICE,OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY MAY, g8TH, 1948. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the Office of the Board, Friday May 28th, 1948 at 9:00 A.M. o'clock. Mr. H.G. Coleman presiding and the following members were present Messrs W.E. Ross and C.M. Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the .previous meeting were read and approved. Chief of Police,Rbhe..r:ecommended that the curb on the South-east cor ner of North A St. and 5th street be painted yellow for one car length. Mr. Haworth moved that the,recommendation of the Chief be accepted, seconded by Mr. Ross and approved by the Board. Chief of Police, Rohe recommended that there be installed 15 minute, parking signs in front of the Morrison-Reeves Library on the North 6th Street side. Mr. Haworth moved that the recommendation be accepted; seconded by Mr. Ross and carried unanimously by the Board. The request of a street light at North 17th and Maple Drive was refeered to the City Engineer to make further study and report to the Board. Fire Chief, Williams reported that the spraying of Clear Creek Dump with oil and DDT had been completed. Fire Chief, Williams presented to the Board the proposal of the Water Works to install mains and fire hydrants in the Sutton Addition for fire protection. The Water Works will install six inch water mains along the following streets; 500 feet on S.W. 16th ad E St. to S.W. F St; 1,100 feet on S.W. 17th from National Read to S.W. E Street; 1,350 feet on S.W E Street from S.W. 3rd St. to College Avenue. There shall also be installed fire hydrants at S.W 17th & D St. , S.W. 17th & E. Street and S.W. 16th & F Street. Mr. Haworth moved that the proposal of the Water Works be accepted, seconded by Mr. Ross and carried unanimously by the Board The Clerk was instructed to notify the Water Works of the action of the Board. A petition signed bty ,1 residence of theeSutt6.n Addition requesting the Board for fire protection���i'he Board authorised the Clerk of the Board to inform the signers of said petition of the action of the Water Works of installing the needed Watery mainsty nd fire hydrants for fire protection. Mr. Burkhart brought to the attention of the Board the need of the changing of the timing of the amber light in the traffic signal at South 9th and E Street. The light is too fast for the North and South traffic to move out of the East and West traffic. The Board authorized the Clerk to inform h e State Highway Comm. of the condition and the need of the change in the timming 6f the amber light. Pursuant to legal advertising in the Richmond Pallidium at 9:00 a.m. o'clock the Bids for Market House Stalls were to be accepted and opened. There was only one Bid received. This Bid was from Joe and Anthony Mercurio and in the amount of 4200.00 for the following stalls, #28,#28,429,#3O,#31,#32 and 3. The Bid was referred to the Board as a Committee to study and their decision to be,pre- sented June 4th, 1948. Mr. Roos,9ity Engineer requested that the Board approve transferring $5,600.00 from the Garden Avenue Sewer fund and $5,000.00 from the Doran Bridge fund to make a total of $10,000.00 for the tomimwaff Storm Sewer in the Southend of the City. A letter from the South Side Improvement Association was received an read. Thecletter stated that the Association was interested in the immediate con- struction of sewer in the area south and west of the Natco. The health of the residence in this area were in danger of an epidemic breaking out at any time. The Board authorized and instructed the Clerk to inform the Assn. that the Board is quite aware of the conditions that are existing in this area-:and that everything will be done within the power of the City to con- 111 struct said sewer in this area when the proper advancement are made by the property owners to finance the construction of the laterals. The Board authorized the clerk of the Board to inform the proerty owner of 6o6 North 14th Street to take immediate action cleaning up the unhealthy condition that exist due to an outside toilet at said residence. Mr. Ross anounced that the Sewage Disposal Plant would bE host to the south section of the Indiana Sewage Works Association and the south-west branch of the Ohio Conference on Sewage Treatment, June 9th, 1948. He urged all the City_Administr ,:tion to attend some time during the day. Mr. Coleman presented and read a letter from the Manufacturers' Appraisal Company of Cleveland, Ohio, stating that this company was interested in the re-appraising plan of the City of Richmond,Indiana. Mr. James 0. Moore,JLn.; Representative, announced that he would be in the City Wednesday morning and make an inspection of the City property and submit a bid for the consider- ation of the Board. The Board allowed claims in the amount of $ .. /17. 7 There being no further busimess to be brought before the hoard, Mr. Haw- orth moved to ajorn, seconded by Mr. Rpss and approved uhanimously by the Board.
