HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-21-1948 253 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, MAY 21st, 1948. The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the office of the Board Friday May 21, 1948 at 9:00 A.M. o'clock. Mr. H.Q. Coleman presiding with the following members present; Messrs W.E. Ross and Mr. C.M Haworth. The following business was had, to-wit: The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Robert C. flaw, Councilman, appeared before the Board and presented the numerous complaints received from residents of the city in regards to the loose paper and trash that had been lost off the trash trucks while enroute over the streets. The Board after discussion authorized the Street Commissioner to purchase tarpolins to cover the trash when the trucks are loaded and upon the streets enroute to the various dumps of the city. Mr. Lester Meadows, Mayor, appeared before the Board requesting that immediate attention be given the Stihhitewater Boulavard in regards to repairing to eliminate the holes made due to the traffic. This was referred to the Street Commissioner and immediate action is urged in repairing this street. Upon recommendation by the Fire Chief that he and the two Fire Prevention Board members be authorized to attend the Fire Prevention School at Purdue U. during June 1,2,and 3, Mr Haworth moved and seconded by Mr. Ross that the rec- commendation be accepted and carried unanj.mou y,br the Board. ,cf ' bl Chief of Police, L. Rohe, requested hat there be placed "No Parking at any time signs" on both sides of North "D" Street between 7th and 8th Streets and also on North 19th Street on the East side from North "E" Street to the Penna. R.R. overhead bridge. Mr. Ross moved and Mr. Haworth seconded the motion that signs be erected at said places as requested and was carried unanimously by the Board and so ordered. Upon recommendation of .theChief of Police that James L. Lehman be appointed as probationary patrolman as of May 22, 1948, Mr Haworth moved that the recommend- ation of the Chief be accepted, seconded by Mr. Ross and approved unanimously by the Board. Mr. Haworth moved that the resignation of Phillip Roser, patrolman, as of May 16th, 1948 be accepted, seconded by Mr. Roes and approved unanimously by the Board. Upon the recommendation of the Chief of Police that the south side of Main Street be restricted of parking of cars from the hours of 12:00 o'clock noon until 9:30 P.M. bn the 31st day of May, to move the returning traffic from the 500 mile race, Mr. Haworth moved that the recommendation of the Chief be accepted seconded by Mr. Ross and carried unanimously by the Board. A petition to cut the curb in front aid the rear of No. 34+ & 36 North 5th Street was presented by O.D. Bullerdick. The Board granted permission to cut the curb in the rear of said addresses but the State will have to give permission to cut the curh on North 5th St. as this is a State Highway. Continued 2,54 The Clerk of the Board was authorized and instructed to contact the owners of the property at 1300 West Main street and advise that the outside toilet at said address is causing a health menace and for them to give this immediate attention. Mr. Don Bell representing the insurance group of Richmond appeared before the Board urging that the Board consider immediately the budget for 1949 on the City property insurance. He has advised a re-appraisal plan and re-pur- chase plan to be presented at a later meeting. In connection with this the Board instructed the Clerk to notify all Department heads to itemize all office equipment in their departments and report not later than July 1st, 194s. Mr. Haworth referred a complaint his office had received on chickens at 36 North Second Street to the Police Department to investigate.
