ThecBoard of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,Indiana met in Regular Session in the Mayor's Office, Friday March 19th,19)-1-g at 9:00 0°clock A.M. Messrs. H.G. Coleman, S.W. Hodgin and C.M. Haworth being present the fol- lowing business was had to-wit; The minutes of the previous meeting were.read.and approved. . . Mrs Julia Playd appeared before the Board requesting permission to plant a garden at South llth_& "0" Streets. This street hasn't been improved and is vacant. Mr. Hodgin made a motion that Mrs. Floyd be granted permission to plant the garden and in case the City improves said street the garden will have to be destroyed. Mr. Haworth seconded this motion and the Board approved. Mr. J.L.Alyea, Division Mgr. Indiana Railroad presented the following letter to the Board. Richmond, Indiana March 19th,194S Board of Public. Works Richmond,Indiana Gentlemen; Due to considerable complaint from the patrons living on Peacock Road, we pro- pose to remedy this condition by extending the West Richmond bus as far as Sed- gwick Street. We also would like permission to use North West 10th Street, instead of North- West 7th Street, so that we can carry patrons on a straight line to East Haven, instead of a long loop. We beleive the re-routing of these lines will provide better service for all concerned. Yours very truly, J.L. Alyea Mr. Haworth made a motion that the reqest of the Indiana Railroad be granted permission to start immediatley for a 30 day trial period. Mr. Hodgin second- ed this motion and the Board approved this. Mr. Alyea acting upon the reccomendation of the Chief of Police,L.Rohe, re- quested permission of the Board to install "Bus Stop Sighs" at Street inter- sections; West 3rd & main Street-2 signs; North Sth. & "B°. Streets-4 signs; North Sth & "C" Streets-2 signs; North Sth & "E" Street-2 signs; North 9th & "E" Street-1 sign; Notth 10th & "E" Street-1 sign; North 12th & "E" Street-2 signs; North 13th & "E" Street-1 sign; North 14th & "E" Street-1 sign;North 15th & "E" Street-2 signs; North 19th & "E" Street-3 signs; West 3rd & National Road-1 sign. The total amount of signs at this time to be 22.sT4esIndiana Rail- road will furnish and maintain these signs and also install under ttre super- vision of, the Supt. of the Street Dept. Mr. Hodgin made a motion that the request of the Indiana R.R.. be granted and Mr. Haworth seconded this motion. The Board approved this motion. Mr. L. Ridgeway, Supt. of Park Dept. reported thta the Elm tree en North "D" Street was still healthy and should not be removed. Continued- Councilman' :Marino°s complaint on the condition of North 11D°° Street between llth & 12th Street wsa feferred to the Supt. of Street Dept. Mr. Marino also requested the Board to consider the installing of a street light on North 9th Street between 11P '1 and "GP Streets. Mr. Hodgin moved that a street light be installed on North 9th Street be- tween 11Ff1 and 11G°° Streets. Mr. Haworth seconded this motion and the Board approved tjis mo$ion9 The Clerk was instructed to notify the Supt. of the Light Plant of this action of the Board. Councilman Baldwin' s complaint of curb conditions in Fairview was referred to the Supt. of the Street Dept, Mr. Burkhart. petition A plttai to cut a curb at Max lot # 8 Sedgwick Place, on West side of said lot for a private drive, by Henry B. Naber was approved by the Board. The Board authorized the Clerk of the Board to write various interested Park- ing Meter Companies that the City of Richmond was interested in having engin- eers come in and make surveys of the- City°s need for parking meters. Mr. Ralph Snavely.,Inspector of Wieghts and Measures presented to the Board specifications for bidders for the entire West end of the Market House lying West of the '''xisting North and' South doors, inside and out. Mr. Hodgin moved that the- specifications of the Market House be excepted and published in the newspaper for bids to be received April 2,194+8 at 9:30 a.m. in the office of the Board. Mr. Haworth seconded this motion and the Board approved this motion. The Clerk of the Board was instructed to advertise for bids on the West end of the Market House and bids to be received April 2,1948 at 9:30 a.m. The specifications for the bids are on file in the City Clerk's office. Mr. A. Burkhart, Street Supt. , requested that he be given permission to sell the old Air Compressor that was used by the Street Dept. for junk. The motor that is attached to be retained by the ept. Mr. Haworth made a motion that the rquest of Mr. Burkhart's be granted. Mr. Hodgin seconded this motion and the Board approved the request. Friday, March 19th,19Lg at 9#0; a.m. fixed by the Board as the date and the time upon which remonstrances may be filed or presented by persons in or ef- fected by Resolution No. 2-1948. There being no remonstrances filed, Mr Hod- gin moved that the Resolution No 2-1948 be confirmed as of March 20th,1948. Mr. Haworth seconded this motion. The Board approved. The Board fixed the date of April 2nd,19148 at 9:30 a.m. for the hearing of remonstrances against the Assesment Roll. There being no further business the Board allowed claims in amount of III $ 31 4R6 . 79 . Mr Haworth moved that the Board adjourn and a second by Mr. Hodgin.
