HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-09-1948 ;rV • OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC-STORKS AND SAFETY CITY OF RICHMOND,INDIANA • FRIDAY,JANUARY 9th,l9l8 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,Indiana,met in regular session in the office of the Board,Friday,January 9th,1948 at 9:00 a.m. Messrs Harold G. Coleman,Clifford Haworth and S.W. Hodgin being present the following proceedings were had to-wit: The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and approved. ' Mr. J.L. Alyea,Division Manager of the Indiana Railroad "appeared before the - Board requesting the change of the route of the Fairview Bus. The primary reason for proceeding down "L" (Northwest) Street to Harris Street is to el- imate the sharp turns off Hunt Street onto Northwest "M" Street,and from "M" Street onto Harris Street. The change.will also give the Bus Company an op- protunity to get factory workers to the factories. from one to two minutes earlier each morning. Mr. nodgin made a motion and Mr. Haworth seconded that the Indiana Railroad. be granted the change of the Fairview Bus to make the change of the route. This was approved by the Board. Mr. Glenn Whitesell of Standard Oil Company of Richmond,Indiana appeared before the Board and in rtded Mr. Gartly of Standard Oil who spoke briefly on the consolidation of contracts of the Light Plant,Street Department and the Disposal Plant. This consolidation of contract would give the City an opprotunity to purchase the oil for uses in the smaller departments,who use • only a small amount of oil in a year,at a lower price. Mr. Hodgin moved and Mr. Haworth seconded a motion that the present contract be modified to in- clude the Light Plant and the Board of Public Works and Safety. This was ap- proved. Upon recommendation of L. Rohe,Chiaf of Police,Mr. Hodgin moved and Mr. Haworth seconded that K.W. Young be appointed to th Police Department and his probationary period to be effective January 2,1948 Upon recommedation of L. Rohe,Chief of,Police,, Mr. Haworth moved and Mr. Hodgin seconded that Leland Ramey be appointed as probationary patrolman . effective January 1b,1948 This was approved. Mr. Ross, Disposal Plant Supt. , asked permission of the Board to trade in two old mowers which are now at the Disposal Plant, in which amount will' bring enough to purchase a sulky. -Mr. Ross also asked permission to pur- chase a new mower to be used at the Disposal Plant. Mr. Hodgin moved and Mr. Haworth seconded a motion that Mr. Ross be granted permission to trade in the two mowers and .also purchase a new mower to be used at the Disposal Plant. This was approved. . Mr. Haworth brought to the attention of Mr. Burkhart the request of Councilman Marino,of the cleaning of the accumlation of trash on the West side of Richmond Mr. Leslie Williams,Chief of Fire Department presented the reason for the . new Pumper not being in service. The Acceptance of Underwriters is necessary and when the proper authorities give the acceptance test and is accepted,it will be put in service. Upon a motion by Mr. Haworth and- seconded by Mr.Hodgin,that L.Williams,Fire Chief be given authority to advertize for bids on a new fire truck according to specgications. This was approved. • 217 It was recommende and ordered by the Board that the Clerk of the Board write W.Ray Stevens,Supt. , of Light Plant and get his opinion of that of what pro- cedure has to be taken to chane the present amber lights in the present traf- fic signals to that of red. A .petition was presented t.o the Board by A.G. Harwood and 267 signatures requesting a traffic light at the corner of North 10th and A Streets. A • . motion by Mr. Hodgin and seconded by Mr. Haworth that a traffic light a in- 11/ stalled at the corners of North 10th and A streets as soon as apil5gRf4tianu are available. It was .so ardered and approved. A motion by Mr. Hodgin and seconded by Mr. Haworth that the City Engineer be given autority to advertise for a new Panel Truck to be used by the City Engineer Department. Bids to received and opened 9:30 a.m. Friday,February bth,191S. This was so ordered and approved. A letter was received from the Sate Board of Health of Indianand read to the Board that Mr. Ralph E. Snavely,Wieghts and Measures of Richmond had passed the examination given foal the purpose of establishing himself as a competent person to serve the City and County as Inspector of Wieghts and M Measures. After allowing claims in the amount of $9,229.07,upon proper motion the Board adjourned. • . • President • S etary o Bo d •
