The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,
Indiana , met in regular session in the office of. the Board, Friday,
:September 19, 1947, at 9 a.m. Messrs . Earl Keisker, S . W. Hodgin
" and Winfield Urban beingpresent the following proceedings were
had to wit:
The minutes of the precedingmeeting were read and approved.
Mr. Keisker moved that upon the recommendation of Fire C ,ief
Williams that he be authorized to -send two of his firemen to the
Fire Prevention School September 22, 23, & 24.j, Mr. Hodgin seconded
it and it was so ordered. ,

8 Mr. Hodgin moved that Charles Allard be permitted to construct
a = inch sewer from the present 22 inch sewer south of the
National Road, south to his lot at the southeast corner of 34th
Street and Avon ,Lane. This to be at his own expense and under the
supervision of the-CityEngineer. Mr. Keisker seconded it and it
was so ordered.
Upon the recommendation of Police Chef Duckett, Mr. Keisker
moved that Harold Ryan and Earl Witherby be placed on the payroll
as regular patrolmen as of September 1st, 1947; and that Paul
Cornelison be placed on the payroll as regular patrolman as of
September 15th. Mr. Hodgin seconded it and it vas so ordered.Q
Upon the recommendation of the CL1.i ef' of Police , Mr. Hodgin moved
andMr. Keisker seconded that the Clemk of the Board be instructed to
notify the Light Plant to install a street light on South H Street
between 6th and 9th Streets .
A petition was received from Agatha Phelps to cut a curb for
a driveway at 510 Peacock Road. Permission was granted.
, The Street Department was instructed to paint the curb on the
cornier of North h Street and North Third Street.
At t-me regular meeting of the Council, Monday, September 15th,
Councilman Brehm ordered an investigation of the fruit stand on
National Road across fro,q Glen Miller Park. This matter was referred
to the Building inspector .
Councilman Brehm complained about the old jalopys being driven
by, school children. This was referred to the Traffic Division.
Police Chief Duckett reported that as long as -a car is in good me-
chanical condition the Police Department can not stop it from being
driven regardless of its age .

Councilman Marino requested a traffic light .at 12th and North
A Streets because of the accidents that have happenedthere . This
matter was referred to the Traffic Division. -
illCouncilman Marino presented to the Council which-was then
presented to the Board of Works a sample of water from the new
well on the West Side . Mr. Hodgin reported that Mr. Shoemaker

had advised that they were getting iron removal equipment but
that a substance was being used until this equipment is received.
Councilman Marino also protested bitterly that the Penn. R. R.
Was deliberately blocking the crossings with complete disregard
to the line of traffic . This matter was referred to the City
Attorney.
Councilman .Eubank complained that the weeds in the 1400 block
on Hunt and Sheridan St. needed to be cut . This was referred to
the Sanitary Inspector.
After allowing claims in the amount of s 8,355.40, upon proper
motion. the Board adjourned. 1
