The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the office of the Board, Friday, July 25, 1947, -at 9 a. m. Messrs . Earl Keisker, S . W. Hodgin, and Winfield Urban being; present the following proceedings were had to wits The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. The bids for coal that were received last week from the Muff Grain & Coal Co. and the Sam Jaffe Co. being the only ones submitted were accepted.. Mr. Ross reported that he had about 1/5 of the grit out of the digester at the Disposal Plant. Upon the recommendation of the fire chief, Mr. Keisker moved that Ralph Holmes be appointed probationary lineman in the Fire Department commencing August 1, 1947 . Mr. Hodgin seconded it andit was so ordered. Mr. Keisker moved that the area between the two driveways into the Leland Hotel Parking lot on South 9th Street be restricted for perking. Mr. Hodgin seconded it and it was so ordered. Upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Williams , Mr. Keisker moved that John Smith be placed on retirement, as of July 31. Mr. Hodgin seconded it and it was. so ordered. - Upon the recommendation of the Fire Chief, Mr. Keisker moved that Joseph Michael Brennan be appointed a probationary fireman to replace John Smith as of August 1, 1947. Mr. Hodgin seconded it and it was so ordered. At the council meeting of July 21st, 1947, Councilman Marino complained that the Tibbs Trucking Co. parks their trucks so that a crippled lady can' t get to her car on North 3rd Street. This was referred to the Traffic Division. Councilman Marino complained that the sewer was stopped up on North 12th between L. and the Penn. R. R. - on the east side of the street . The Street Commissioner reported that the drain had been opened. . Mr. Coffey of the Bus Company made a request that a sign be put up at the intersection- at South 8th Street on the east side saying "no parking at any time" . The. Street Commissioner was instructed to take care of this matter. f Mr . Walter Davis requested permission to restrict parking in front of his place of business on North 12th & E for customers only. This matter was referred to the Traffic Division 1..8 V•i On the request of Er. Earl Mann that a 12 inch tile be placed in the open ditch on Commons Road, City Engineer Hodgin and Street Superintendent Burkhardt reported that they believe that the condition could be eliminated by the county highway rebuilding the inlets at the 60 inch culvert which crosses under the Commons Road just west of the Corporate Limits and carry the open ditch to such inlet. Mr. Hodgin moved that the Declaratory Resolution No. 10-1947 , providing for the vacation of a portion of the first alley lying east of North 3rd Street and extending north from the first alley north of Main Street to the north line of Lot No . 18 of Dugdale ' s Addition, be adopted, setting the date of hearing for Friday, August 15; 1947 , at 9 :30 a. m. -Mr. Keiskerseconded it and it was so ordered. The next board meeting will be held Saturday morning, .gust 2, 1947, at 9 a . m. After allowing claims in the amount of 0_4 ,717 .10, upon proper motion the Board adjourned. • President Attest: .� becretary
