HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-27-1947 110 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, JUNK 27, ;947 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the Office of the Board, Friday, June 27, 1947, at 9 A . M. Messrs . Earl Keisker, S . W. Hodgin, and II Winfield Urban being present the following proceedings were had to wit: The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. J. R. Harrington, representing C . Baird and G. S.cantland, presented a request for a permit to close temporarily Southwest 15th Street, between Southwest D and Southwest F Street; likewise to close temporarily Southwest D Street and Southwest E Street as lying east of Southwest 17th Street and west of private lane East of Southwest 15th Street, on account of open excavations ' being dug in the streets requested closed. Mr. Hodgin moved that this request for a temporary closing be granted until the hazards are eliminated. Mr. Keisker seconded it and it was so ordered. Mr. Keisker moved that Mr. C . A . Jolliff be granted permission to make a curb on the South side of Park Place on South 10th Street, provided he does it at his own expense and under the supervision of the City Engineer. Mr. Hodgin seconded it 'and it was so ordered. Mr. Hodgin moved that the Declaratory Resolution No. 9, 1947 , providing for the vacation of the first alley, south of National Road, West between Southwest 15th and the lane along Earlham Cemetery be adopted, setting Friday, July 18, 1947, at 9:30 A. M. for hearing of same . A complaint was received from residents on Northwest llth Street about the bad odor and mosquitos coming from the dump in Clear Creek Park, and that they wanted the pond sprayed in order to prevent mosquitos. This matter was referred to the Health & Sanitation Department . The Street Commissioner was instructed to install stop signs at Southwest 5th & Q. The Clerk of the Board was instructed to prepare an advertisement for bids for coal for the season of 1947 to 1948, setting the date I/ for receiving and opening same , July 18, 1947 , at 9:30 A. M. Mr. Hodgin moved that the request received from Belden for i permission to extend their private driveway to the Williamsburg Pike be granted, provided it be under the supervision of the City Engineer. Mr. Keisker seconded it and it was so ordered. I Dr. W. R. Taylor, County Health Officer requested permission to have the various vault cleaners empty their tanks into the City interceptor sewers rather than haul their contents to farm land near the City. This matter was referred to the City Engineer and the Superintendent of the Disposal Plant for investigation and recommendation. 177 The Street Commissioner was instructed to install 24 inch corragated pipe in North 13th from North J to the River to carry the water from the inlets at North J and 13th Streets: thus eliminate an open ditch. The City Engineer made a report on a conference he had with the General Superintendent of the Penn. R. R. relative to the construction of an underpass at the North 12th Street Crossing in connection with the vacation of North 13th Street as requested by the International Harvester. This conference was attended by a representative of the International Harvester Company. Mr. C . A. Adams, the General Superintendent of the Penn. R. R. , advised that the matter should be taken up with the thief Engineer of the Penn. in Chicago. The City Engineer was instructed to contact, Mr. Moffitt either by letter or conference, with the view of having prepared a plan and estimates for the desired improvement. The City Engineer advised that he attended a conference with the Board of Directors of the First National Bank with respects to conveying to the City, A Quit Claim Title to certain grounds in the vicinity of Morton Lake . He advised that the formal proposition will be submitted by the bank at an early date. The Board accepted the resignation of Roy Craig from the Police Department as of June 23, 1947.
