HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-23-1947 167 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA 111 FRIDAY, MAY 23, 1947 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the office of the Board, Friday, May. 23, 1947, at 9 A. M. Messrs . Earl Keisker, S. W. Hodgin, and Winfield Urban being present the following Proceedings were had to wit: The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. Mr. Keisker moved and Mr. Hodgin seconded that the Richmond Vtater Works Corporation, and the Richmond Gas Corporation, and the Municipal Electric Light and Power Plant be given permission to install two 8 inch water mains , one 6 inch gas main, and four fibre conduits in the center of the South Side Bridge in the space which had been originally provided for the installation of the street car track. The cost of this work is to be borne entirely by the three utilities , work to be done by a private contract. Permission was also granted to close the bridge to traffic during the period of time needed to make the installation. It was also moved by Mr. heisker & seconded by Mr. Hodgin that the Richmond Water Works Corporation be instructed to install 12 inch service from South G .& 5th Streets across the South Side Bridge; thence by way of Southwest G to the Abington Pike and North on the Abington Pike to Southwest E Street (A distance of about 3150 ft . ) , and thence by a 6 inch main to College Avenue (a distance of about 1500 ft. ) It was so ordered. It was brought to the attention of the Board that the Council Meeting May 19th, Councilman Harris reported South 20th Street in bad condition between Main & A Streets . Councilman Kinder also reported that Northwest A Street in bad condition where gas main was installed. These matters were referred to the City Engineer and the Street Commissioner, who reported that the streets were already being taken care of. Councilman Marino presented a petition Tor sewer on North 8th & I. He also recommended a guard rail be installed between C & 0 Railroad and the Iron Bridge„ ,over the river, in Bridge Avenue . These Matters were referred to the City Engineer, the Street Commissioner, and the Chief of Police . Councilman Tracy presented ,a letter in regard to large trucks parking on the streets on Sunday near churches . This matter was referred to the City Attorney and the Chief of Police. A request was received from Miller Bos . to have the parking restrictions on the west side of Fort Wayne Avenue from the Penn. Railroad to North D Street revised from a two hour Mm.LV 18 to one hour and that this restriction be enforced. A letter' was also received from the Haler Candy & Tobacco Co. requesting that the curb be painted yellow in front of their warehouse on Fort Wayne Avenue . These matters were referred to the Police Chief and upon his recommendation, Mr. Keisker moved and Mr. Hodgin seconded that parking be restricted from two hours to one hour from the Penn. Railroad to Neff Street. It was so ordered and the clerk was instructed to notify the state Highway Department. 1/ After allowing claims in the amount of r6A.96 ,• upon proper motion the Board adjourned. , On account of Friday, May 30, being a legal Holiday, `Thursday, May 29, at 9 A.
