HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-22-1946 77 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1946 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana , met in regular session in the office of the Board Friday, February 22, 1946 at 9 A.M. Present were Messrs . Earl Keisker and Winfield Urban; the following proceedings were had to wit: .. _ 1/. The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved. Upon recommendation of Chief of Police Ellis Duckett, Robert Brown was appointed probationary policeman commencing March 1, 1946, with a probationary salary of 43185.00 per month. It was requested by Chief of Police Duckett that Joseph E. White and Carl Berner, who will have completed their probationary period on March 1, 1946, be appointed regular policemen at the regular salary. Mr. Urban moved and Mr. Keisker seconded, that on the recommenda- tion of Chief of Police Duckett, the east side of North 8th St. , from Main Street north to the taxi cab stand, be restricted to 15 minute parking . It was so ordered. Chief of Police Duckett reported that the matter had been brought to his attention regarding city busses not stopping at their usual place to. discharge and take on passengers in the business district, blocking the pedestrian crossing. He stated he would promptly take the matter up with Mr. Alyea, manager of the bus company, and also make a survey as to' increasing the loading zone as necessary when the new busses arrive. The matter of installation of a water line running south from National Road on S .W. 15th Street for a distance of 700 feet was re- ferred. to Fire Chief Williams . T'ie Matter of removal of a barn belonging to Max Barnes, which will permit extension of S .W. 15th St. was referred to the City Attorney. Fire Chief Williams reported that one of the fire trucks was dam- aged in crossing the Pennsylvania Railroad at North 15th St. , and the City Attorney was instructed to take up the matter of crossing repair with the Pennsylvania Railroad. It was brought to the attention of the Board that at the regular meeting of Common Council on February 18, 1946, Councilman Russell re- commended that, due to the narrowness of High Sixth, parking should be limited to only one side_ of the street, and this has been requested by citizens living on that street . It was referred to the Traffic Depart- ment. Mr. Russell also recommended that the curb be painted yellow on the Northwest corner of South 5th and E designating a bus stop. It was referred to the Traffic Dept. Mr. Duckett reported that he recommends painting of the curb and that the matter should be taken up with the State Highway Commission. The Clerk of the Board was then ordered to write to the State Highway Commission to that effect . 78 The following letter was received by the Board and referred to the City Attorney and the City Engineer: February 16, 1946 "Board of Public Works I/ Richmond, Indiana Gentlemen: We , Paul and Ralph Krick, living at 17 Richmond Ave . , Richmond, Ind. , would like to buy 50 ft. of the City ground South of our line . This ground would be 50 f t. width, on or about 120 f t . length. Length runs East and West. Location of this ground is on or about 300 ft. south of the West end of the Doren Bridge . Ground faces Whitewater River. This ground has no building or no improvement.. We would pay Two Hun- . dred Dollars , 200.00 for same . Yours very truly, Ralph Krick Paul Krick" Pursuant to an advertisement in the Richmond Palladium, at 9:30 o ' clock, the only bid received for one three-wheeled motor cycle with accessories for the Police Department was opened. This was the bid of Earl J. Wright in the amount of 757 .80 less allowance for used motor cycle in the sum of 4 360.00, making the net bid 097 .80. Mr. Keisker moved and Mr. Urban seconded that the bid be accepted and Chief of Police Duckett was authorized to execute a purchase order for same as of February 22, 1946 .
