OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY CITY OF RI CHMOND, INDIANA
FRIIAY JANUARY 25th, 1946

The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond,
Indiana, met in regular session in the office of the Board Friday,
January 25th, 1946 at 9 A.M. Present were Messrs . S. W. Hodgin,
Earl Kiesker and Winfield Urban; the following proceedings were had
to wit:
The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved.
The Board authorized Fire Chief;Harry Williams to contact Garfield
Dixon and the insurance company with reference to demolition of the
tower at No. 4 Hose House .
Mr. Urban moved on January llth, and Mr. Keisker seconded that
bids for chain at the sewage disposal plant be re-advertised according
to specifications furnished the Clerk' of the Board by Mr. Ross, super-
intendent of the sewage disposal plant, bids to be received at 9:30 A.M.
on February 15th, 1946.
Mr. Keisker moved and Mr. Urban seconded that on the recommendation
of the Chief of Police, Howard Harlan Lewis be appointed probationary
police as of February 1, 1946.
Chief of Police Duckett reported to the Board that it was necessary
to replace the oldest three-wheeled motor cycle, and the Board authoriz-
ed Mr. Duckett to make an investigation and report back to the Board
what arrangements could be made for a trade-in on a new three-wheel motor
cycle. Mr. Duckett further informed the Board there is only one company
manufacturing the type of motor cycle the department uses . •
Mr. Urban moved and Mr. Keisker seconded and it was so ordered
that the City Engineer proceed with the installation of partitions in
the Board of Works office and in the Mayors office.
Mr. Keisker reported to the Board at the regular meeting of Common
Council of the City of Richmond, Ind. on January 21, 1946, Councilman
Russell reported that he had received a request for the repair of Perry
St. and for a sewer connection on the north side of the same street.
City Engineer Hodgins reported there is a sewer available between Perry
and M Sts . and that it was up to the individual property owner to bear
expenses of tapping into same . The matter of repair of the street was
referred to the street commissioner.
The Clerk of the Board was instructed by the Board to notify the
light plant to install a light on South G St. at the alley intersection
between South 8th and South 9th.
A- request was received, signed by eighteen property owners , for the
installation of a' street light in the middle of the block between S.W. D
and S.W. E on S.W. 3rd St. This matter was referred to the City Engineer
and the Chief of Police.
The City Engineer and the Street Commissioner were authorized to make
an investigation at the west end of the G St. bridge relative to the erec-
tion of a barrier on the south side of the circle.
At 9:30 A.M. , pursuant to advertisement in the Richmond Palladium,
the Board received bids for five radio transmitters . Only one bid was
received, that of Fred M. Link. This bid offered the requested equipment
at a price of $'250.00 per unit. It was moved and seconded and so ordered
that the Chief of Police be authorized to make this purchase and further •
that he confer with Ramsey McDonald relative to the purchase of extra
equipment costing 5.00 more per unit, and if same is recommended that
he be authorized to make such purchase.
After allowing claims in the amount of $16 7 L• 41/ , upon proper
motion, the Board adjourned.
